I am trying to buy a speedo cable and I need to know if the 2002 900ss front axle is 25mm. Any body know if it is? And if not what the size is?

Thanks!

25mm not sure why that is needed for the speedo cable though... that is more about what year of manufacture (probably didnt change for the ssie model lifetime) hough i think its different to the earlier SS Carb bikes (due to different speedos being used on the SSie bikes)

Basically I need a speedo cable. I was told that a 996 speedo will fit it. But I wanted to be sure before I pull the trigger on buying one.

Yeah it should fit, you can go to the dealer and buy one brand new (cable/housing/grease) from Italy for $11.

996 part number is completely different.

This is the part number for the 750 and 900 EFI bikes is 403.1.010.1A

To find the correct one on the internet type Ducati 40310101A

Presuming you are after the speedo drive as you mention diameters ....

Rear axle nuts are 22mm ATF, I have 2 Craftsman 22mm sockets, the 12 point fits fine, the 6 point not so fine. I think my 6 point socket I have is a bit close to size. The axle nut is a machined piece so the flats are machined on very close to 22mm.

I just checked the nuts on my 2000 with a vernier caliper, pretty spot on 22mm.

Metric system.

When you want to know what size metric socket, ring spanner or open spanner, measure the distance between opposing flats on the nut or bolt (same goes for Allen keys) and whatever you measure is the size you need.

You measure 22mm so you need a 22 socket, 30mm means a 30 socket and so on.

It is a simple and consistent system that does not involve fractions over 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64 etc.
