I recently acquired a 2000 ST2 with dry clutch, and already logged in about 1000 miles. :D
I just started to notice that when I engage in first gear and let go of the clutch, the clutch made a groaning/grabbing sound – I think cleaning the clutch should resolve this. Then on my last ride when engaging in first gear, the bike lurches, and tries to die out even with clutch lever pulled in. Does anyone know why is this so? Does my clutch needs replacing/cleaning or this is just making an adjustment….

Any help will be approached. This is my first Ducati, and I’ve been happy so far.

BTW, apart from the above issue, the bike runs fine and shifts well in all gears and rides fine. ;)

Thanks!

Sounds like it's clogged up with dust from the friction plates.
Firstly, take off the cover and try to blow all the crap out.
An open clutch cover prevents the dust buildup. It might be worth considering getting yourself an open cover and a nice anodised pressure plate, some stainless springs and bolts and some caps to go with them.

Also, bleed the master cylinder. It sounds like you have some air in the line.

Have a good one.
