Hey guys. So I got my 2000 996 back in August and now starting to address issues and dislikes.

My side stand does not flip up on its own which I and very grateful for. However, why not? Did they get rid of that on the 996 or did the PO do something?

My wonderful wife got me the sidestand bypass kit for Christmas so the bike can start with the side stand down. However, i noticed one day while starting it on my rear stand that the bike will start with the bike in gear. Is this normal? No bike I have ever had before, including my previous Monster 695 would do that.

Thanks everyone.

For the 2000 model year they went to a switch that would not let the bike run with the stand down at all. Many disabled the switch so it would run regardless of stand position. First start logic circuit model was 2002 monster s4.

Very true. I guess since it won’t start from the factory with the kick stand down it doesn’t really matter. I just thought it was strange. I was thinking about it last night and I never had another bike that I had to start on a rear stand. But I do seem to recal on my other bikes in the past there was a time I tried to start it not realizing it was in gear and was like, why isn’t it started. That’s what I get for being in a hurry.

Thanks for the response. And MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
