Today I put 15 43 gearing. rear is quick relase. both sprockets are JT. bike is 996 1999.

and I went drive, and over bumps I had loud clanking noise. also upshifts seems louder.

after drive I saw that frame (not swingarm) was grinded slightly , as chain rub on it.

I put 525 zvmx chain , which is around 1 mm thicker.

Will play with ecentric thing (chain tenson adjustment) help? to put it maybe lower (at 6 o clock)?

Also, how much mm have standard chain , clearance from frame?

we had a 998 years ago that one particular replacement chain rubbed on the inside of the frame above the swingarm pivot. i think something else got fitted and it was ok.

It seems ita combination of 1mm thicker chain, and bigger rear sprocket And work frontsprocket plate (with two bolts).

can somebody send me pic or tell me hoe much clerance he got on his 996 (chain/frame clerance). thanks

thank you ! I appreciate your answer. I have 1mm clerance. so it can be because thicker chain and front sprocket retainer worn/rear quick charge sprocket left-right play (~1mm).

Ok, I think I will go to vx chain, instead fat zvmx.

btw 15-43 bike is sooo much nicer to drive in city.

I have hard time solving this problem.

So.. I put 15/43 gearing.

Chain is did zmvx 98 links.

tension is 25mm as recomended.

tension is at 4-6 clock.

and chain still slightly rubbing the frame (not swingarm).

Can someone please measure chain width (standard chain), at widest point (pin/link), not rivet link,as rivet link seems a bit narrower than other pins.

thanks in advance!

I cannot b/c mine is not stock.

It sounds like the rear sprocket assembly is out of line. As if it is stacked too thick and so moves the carrier out too far. Can you provide have a close up of thread count at the carrier nut and an additional picture of the back side of the carrier to show the space between the carrier and the swing arm?

here are pics. seems chain going too high.. because some reason. I installed bearing and washer, as it was in standard sprocket.

rear sprocket have little free play. maybe half mm. also front sprocket have maybe half mm play. not much.

Is this risky to drive? seems chain rub just a little bit..but enough to make it visible on frame

touching frame...

maybe check your chain alignment, rear sprocket has moved out from center of wheel?

rubbing the frame is not how it was designed....

DID VX 525 chain approx. 21.5mm across the pins

Honestly guys , the man asked a simple question ,, leave your keyboard for 5sec & measure it ,, it’s not that hard.

RK 525 chain 23mm wide, about 3mm gap to frame. And took quite a bit longer than 5 sec to measure. And its not about chain width, front sprocket is miles away where it should be.

thanks ! mine is 23mm. between widest point on chain. That can make difference.

Also, anybody know if did 525HV is standard dimension chain for 996?

miolta: how you mean? I cannot adjust front sprocket, I can just install it oposite (flat side toward engine).
