I am doing the first valve check on my 1098 and the closers are all .002-.004 (all but 2 are .003 or tighter) but the closers are .007-.008. Ducati has opening clearance at .005-.007, but measuring clearances at .004-.010. Does that mean if my clearances are all .008 I wouldn't have to change the shims? Thanks!

This is where opinions really come Into play. From a pure performance point of view one would adjust to .006.given the spec has a huge variance of .004-.010 most would not adjust .fwiw. Adjusting .001 is very tricky as one usually has to lap shims,or change half rings
