1098 Front Axle

Hi All I typically Haunt the ducatisupersport939 forum but since i have a project 1098 and a question i thought i would bug you folks.

I just got a project 1098 and today im installing the front wheel and the axle that came with it does not seem right. (see attached photo) am i missing something? There just seems like its too long.
