A 525 and a 520 chain have the same distance (pitch) between links so the number of links will be the same after the conversion. They differ in the chain link width.
Ok thanks I will be going up in the rear sprocket. 15/41 would there be enough adjustment with the std links which I will count or would you increase a couple. track use. Also would you run the chain with extra slack adj, then std.
If you go from the 1098s' stock 15/38 to 15/40 you'll have to use a 98-link chain (2-links longer) to keep the wheelbase and ride height correct. I don't recommend it. Unlike earlier bikes, the stock gearing on a 1098 is just about perfect for road and track use.
I also don't recommend a 520 chain conversion for such a high torque bike.
