I have a 2005 999R and under hard acceleration at the top of 1st gear, and all of second gear the motor/power seems to slip when in the powerband right around half throttle, anyone have any ideas?? I am not sure what is going on... no clutch smell or anything like that... could the belts be slipping??

Your clutch is worn such that the stack height is less than 36mm.

Add a plate, problem gone.

A plate as in a steel plate to the clutch pack to bring the stack height back up to the correct height.

It's going to get worse, so I'd fix it before doing more riding.

I always have spare plates lying around, so it was a 10 minute fix for me (exact same problem).

Go to a shop and ask for an old plate if you don't have one.
