  1. Racetech Gold Valve vs. Ohlins

    Suspension and Tire Tech
Having played around with shock and fork internals I know a fair bit about them. I've reshimmed the shock countless times and ended up sending it to Jamie Daugherty for a reshim. He has a shock Dyno and knows how the shock should behave. I can tell you however that the standard piston looks...
  2. 924S Continuous build

    Superbikes
Hi, I've got some experiences revalving the stock showa fork (shims only) and can only recomment that you give this a go. Stock compression valving is a joke (way to harsh) and I went down on spring rate as well. Rear could use a heavier spring as well.
  3. Alternate suspension rockers/links

    Superbikes
Hi guys, At the moment I'm investigating linear rockers on the superbikes. As far as I can see the 1098 series benefits most from a linear rocker. The 996 and 999 rockers seem to be less progressive than, but still benefit from the unobtainable 749R link. As far as I can see the main...
  4. Strange suspension related wear Bridgestone R11

    Suspension and Tire Tech
Thanks for the advice, this all supports my original thesis..... Last weekend I've pulled the shock and reshimmed for less rebound. For now the result on the road feels good. Next friday I'll have my last track day of the season and will report my findings. Hopefully it will improve.
  5. Dangerous Information On Charging Shocks with air.

    Suspension and Tire Tech
I'm one of the guys that frequently use air in my shock after making a reshim. If succesfull I take the shock to the shop and replace the air (from a mountainbike shock pump) with nitrogen. After three times inflating/deflating I hope most of the the moisture is out..... Since my shock is...
  6. Strange suspension related wear Bridgestone R11

    Suspension and Tire Tech
I,m suspectiing eigher rebound or compression being to slow. Pressure should be OK, was riding with 25 psi measured in the pits. Started with 28 at first which is too high according to Bridgestone. Playing around with Rebound adjusters did not bring too much improvement while even starting a...
  7. Strange suspension related wear Bridgestone R11

    Suspension and Tire Tech
Hi guys, After switching to R11's in 190/55 my tyre wear itself has improved compared to the power cup evo' I was riding. However I get strange clear triangles on the leading edge of the sipes on the tyre edge. The bike is a 749S with Showa shock revalved to take a 95N/mm spring for my 175lbs...
  8. Tachometer problems 749S

    Superbikes
Getting the dash open was easy. Popping the circuitboard open from the frame also worked, but to get the circuitboard loose from the tach dial I need to pry the tacho needle loose and that looks incredibly flimsy. Any tips on getting the needle safely from the tach engine motor?
  9. Tachometer problems 749S

    Superbikes
Dear all, The last year my bike has evolved an innocent, but pretty annoying problem. The bike runs fine, but especcially on the track the tacho dial is starting perfect, but anywhere in a session it starts so show either a couple of thousans RPM more or less. When switching the ignition off...
  10. refinishing engine carbon fiber parts

    Tech Forum
Use a semi gloss clear coat. That also worked wonders in creating the ducati Dark look.

That's the one good part of living in Northern Europe. Don't need to worry about UV filters ;-)
  13. refinishing engine carbon fiber parts

    Tech Forum
The generic clear coat still looks perfect after an hours drive today. It was almost freezing so it might not have reached peak summer temps, but I doubt the carbon clutch cover will exceeds temps of 80 degrees since this will melt boots etc.
  14. refinishing engine carbon fiber parts

    Tech Forum
Hi, Just did the same thing to my clutch cover. I just used a generic shiny clearcoat that is heat resistant till 80 degrees Celcius. That shiuld suffice. Did not ride with the new clearcoat on, so I don't know if it will hold. If the weather plays nice I'll take her out this weekend amd will...
  15. Duacti 996 front fork and rear upgrade

    Superbikes
Just a reshim will work wonders as well. A cartridge kit setup by a pro will beat a 30mm ohlins kit that is setup incorrectly. Servicing your shock will do wonders as well.

this is beyond my experience or skill. Can't help you more, did you check the wiring?
  17. TPS Woes

    Tech Forum
The TPS on my own 749 with 59M died 2 years ago. It gave the TPS error and it was virtually impossible to start since the values were so out of sync it gave black smoke while trying keep it from stalling. Solution was pretty simple. I bought the replacement TPS from a alfa romeo/Fiat car...
  18. 848 Showa Fork Leak at 2700 miles!

    Superbikes
Tommy knowledge leaking ohlins are normal, leaking showas usually not. A teardown itself is not so hard though. but before you start spending money please try the business card trick. First pull down the dust seal, thats the first rubber ring you can see. You can pry that one loose (carefully)...
  19. 749 Crankshaft interchangeability

    Tech Forum
That valve is bent 100% You can check pretty easy if you extend the valves. You can then turn them around. This way you can check the out of roundness by holding a metal ruler close to the edge of the valve. Or take them out, put them in a drill and start spinning. New valves are pretty...
  20. 999 vs 924 in 06 749

    Superbikes
If you can do the work yourself then you've got some serious options: Buy a used 999 piston set, cilinders and crank, main bearings, big end shells and headgaskets. Split your current engine cases and build in the 999 reprocirating parts, set the squish and cam timing and you've got a 999...
