  1. '95 900SS Clutch Rebuild Question

    Supersport
Check Surflex, Adige, Newfren for clutch plates. I like Surflex (expensive though) and I'm trying a set of Newfren now. I can't comment on those yet......
  2. Digital Dash

    Supersport
Why would you need to put it on a dyno for setting up the dash? I can't figure that one out.....
  3. best mod

    Supersport
Carbs (Dellorto flatslides) on short manifolds, heads were flowed mildly, seperate igintion unit (locally made). Runs very well....
  4. Intake Runners

    Supersport
It seems there are many opinions on this subject. Mine is that you don't need a mirror like finish. You do need to take out sharp edges etc. if any and make the inner shape as fluent as possible in order not to hamper flow.
  5. best mod

    Supersport
Straight rate springs matched to your weigth, gold valves, 5W oil........... A close second would be the 1000 engine that I transplanted after the 900 began to use engine oil in serious quantities......
  6. High idle sometimes - 900ss with Malossi

    Supersport
You state: idling used to be spot on. My suggestion; leave the adjustments (float height etc.) alone. Focus on cleaning the carbs insides (ultrasonic) and replace the rubber things inbetween mainfold and carb. They look like the Guzzi parts and those will deteriorate especially since the carbs...
  7. High idle sometimes - 900ss with Malossi

    Supersport
Pics please of your setup. I run Dellorto flatslides myself. Cause is lean mixture as everybody suggested already. Either an air leak inbetween cilinderhead and carb or a lean mixure caused by your idle circuit (did it perform like this all the time or did it run well with the current idle jet...
  8. 1993 900 SS showa 41 overhaul

    Supersport
Woooops, sorry about that. I just thought once you open it up that might be an nice opportunity.
  9. 1993 900 SS showa 41 overhaul

    Supersport
It has been said many times before, but do replace springs and put in gold valves as this is the #1 upgrade for your SS in terms of bang for your bucks (in my opinion)..At least for me it was (and I did my fair share of upgrades to mine).......
  10. SS1000 2004 Overheating!

    Supersport
Mine (DS motor in 95 900SS with Dellorto flatslide carbs) runs between 110-120 degr in summer up to 135 during trackdays. No problemo.... Johno
  11. Split Mikunis

    Supersport
I like the idea! This might very well be a cheap but huge improvement. I have always heard that it's about the intake length. The standard Mikuni are CV carbs but apparantly can be made to work very well (I thought that was done by Doug Lofgrenn back in the days). Dell'ortos are also cheap...
  12. Massive tank slapper!!!!!

    Supersport
A couple of years ago I experienced a tankslapper-like situation on a real bad road, giving full throttle going out of a slow turn. The front lifted as I accelerated and that's when it started. Needless to say, it scared the shit out of me. I then went for front springs matching my weight and...
  13. White Early SS?

    Supersport
  14. White Early SS?

    Supersport
I kinda like this one too.....Note how they lifted the seat by rewelding the rear frame at a different angle.
  15. Project : Caffe Corse

    Sport Classic
That Dutch member would be me I guess......VHSB 38mm (Dell Orto flat slide), really easy operation (as opposed to round slide Dell Orto's that require a humungus right arm). I started with these on my 900 engine, some years ago put in a 1000 engine, together with a seperate ignition unit (made...
  16. Frame bracing, is it needed?

    Supersport
Joe, That's a good one; I haven't done the before and after test. Then again; looking at 4V frames and compare those with SS frames result in some differences that should be responsible for an increase in handling performance. But I agree, it's all circumstancial evidence.... It would be nice...
  17. Frame bracing, is it needed?

    Supersport
Here's a Pierobon TT frame that shows more clearly the cross bar behind the steering head. Instead of this bar, you could add 2 bars in a V shape to the lower cross bar; that kind of similar to the 4V frames. I agree that strenghtening the frame for every day riding is over the top, but on...
  18. Frame bracing, is it needed?

    Supersport
I beg to differ; actually there is at least one place to strenghten the frame: just behind the steering head; add a cross beam to reduce the flex that causes the steering head to crack. The former "sport" type (you know with the Weber carbs did have this bar in the frame, but for the SS's it had...
  19. carbonfibre baby!

    Supersport
That looks really nice ! If you consider making copies, I'd be definitely interested. Johno
  20. 750 ss motor build started

    Supersport
WOW !!! I don't care it's a 750, it's a work of art. I'm looking forward to hear what power she will put out. Nice work. Johno
