If I didn't have my '02 Bayliss I'd definitely consider a Monster and the air-cooled 1100 would be a good bet I think. Any Monster will be more versatile than a Superbike for most people. So much depends on how you feel on the bike and how you plan to use it. I've never owned a Monster but I do know the Air-cooled motors and they are reliable and lower maintenance. That's about as much as I can offer. Good luck with your search.
Alright I went to one of the local Ducati dealers and sat on several different Ducati's. Hypermotard, Monsters of various sizes, Streetfighter, 848, 1198 etc. I ruled out the streetfighter as I ride on the balls of my feet and the exhaust exit bothers my footing on the right peg. I really liked the Monsters, just sitting on them in the showroom they seemed very comfy and nice. I think that I would get bored with the 796, but the 1100 seems like something that could make me smile everytime I strap a helmet on.... I am going to try to goto another dealership and get a demo on the 1100, 796 Monsters and a Hyper. I'm a bit nervous about buying an older 996, 998 and not being able to find parts for it later on as I keep it.
I've only used my Ortliebs on SS/SP's and an SS1000DS. All three had the low mount CF mufflers. I've never had an issue with that set up. I'm not familiar with the Multi exhaust so I don't know if it can be a problem. Wish I could be more helpful. Oh, and no I'm not selling my Ortliebs. Sorry.
I've sent you messages before asking about your Ortlieb panniers. Did you have to assemble any type of bracket/rack to keep them safely distanced from your exhaust on any of your bikes? I am wanting to put them on a multistrada, however the exhaust is largely exposed in the wheel well and I fear the bags will contact my exhaust. Also, any chance you're selling your ortliebs anytime soon? Cheers!
