Your point about stresses is well made. Cars don't rev to 10000rpm and that big bore is one hell of a long way to go in a short time at 10000rpm. Much shorter journey in a smaller cylinder.

Try replacing the steel battery terminals with copper ones too. Made a surprising difference on my bikes. Good quality chunky are best!
