AK749 I only topped up the pool last week with spring upon us. No sooner do i do this and clouds start to burst. I reckon I have backwashed about 10,000 litres of water out of it this last few days.

The forecast says fine for Sunday so hopefully I can ride the bike after running the Sydney Marathon in the morning :-)

And it is still f***ing raining!

TassieDave Sorry about the rain (he says with a smile) - bureau say it's supposed to rain here tomorrow. And that'd be right. Melbourne weather moving from Siddey to Tas just when I finish my night shifts.

AK749 Thanks for sharing this with us. I read your post last night after a glorious day in Sydney and thought I will do the same thing tomorrow. I've never known what a rostered day off is so it was going to have to be a sickie.

Instead, I woke to 100mm of overnight rainfall. A good day to stay in bed but I was going nowhere on two wheels.

Forecast: More Rain!!!!!

Lets try again next week :-)

Lovely Day

Picture this - it's the middle of the week and I have 2 roster days off. Washing is on the line and I've mowed the lawn - time for a ride. Weather is cool to cold but the sun is out. Still some damp patches in odd spots. I head west as it's been a while since I've been to Boat Harbour. On the highway I see 2 bikes - a cruiser and an R1 - nod from the cruiser nothing from the R1.

Off the highway to Boat Harbour. 2nd gear throttle closed all the way down to the beach because it sounds nice. Wind surfer almost moving into shore, feet up U turn in the carpark as there is nothing much more there. A few cars with people just looking at stuff. And passing time. Back up the hill starting at 40 kph as that is what the speed limit there is. Nod the the nice lady who is out filling peoples letterboxes with junk mail. Turn right at the intersection and off to Sisters Beach. Both these places are what you'd call sleepy seaside holiday towns/villages. As I get close to Sisters Beach I spot a road works sign -yeah that'd be right - and the last couple of corners too. I slow down (I had already passed a truck load of gravel back up the road). Dude leaning on a shovel waves. I wave. Road works were on a side road so the bike doesn't get dirty.

Into Sisters and idle through the streets at 40 kph again - doing the right thing - to the boat ramp. Hmm me thinks - nice and deserted with no-one there, No cars with boat trailers, nothing but me. Have a quiet smoke then notice I've parked in a no parking area - must remember not to do that again. Plod back through sleepy Sisters Beach and there is a dude doing wood working stuff is his shed. He waves. I wave. Have no idea who is or whether he rides. Up the road a little there are 3 people walking. 2 women talking (shock) and one old dude minding his own - he waves. I wave. I turn onto another street and see a car heading toward same intersection as me. He gets there first but pulls over off the raod to left me by. He knows that bikes use the road and I would have passed him anyway. Another wave by both. Dudes still doing road works but the one with the shovel has gone. Pause for a boring bit.... heading back through the back road to home and there is Wally (a farmer) doing some fencing. I know him but I doubt that he knows it's me under the helmet. And he waves to EVERYONE anyway. Pass a harley and I'm home - don't wave because he moved over on me as I passed him.

Sure, the cool to cold bit was right but I've had a good day. Return trip was probably 50 klms and I saw maybe 30 cars and 3 other bikes. Highway is two way - single lane each way - none of the big city multiple lane stuff. Traffic kept left when there was an overtaking lane but who would call 30 or so cars traffic.
