Exactly, you need to be very deliberate. Sometime a light touch works, but that is a bad practice with this gearbox, because a light touch does not always work. Press it home firmly.

I've noticed it being a little finicky from both 1st - neutral and 2nd down to neutral. It struck me as odd at first because I'd never noticed that same issue on any of my other 7 non Ducati sport bikes I've owned.

Yes me too. If I bump it into Neutral whil I'm still rolling no issue, but sometimes if I'm stopped it just does not want to go into neutral. Not sure why.

Try bleeding your clutch, classic symptom.
