2008 hypermotard 1100S with startup problems

My 2008 Hypermotard 1100S was just taken out of winter hibernation. It started on the first try, with a fresh battery, but after that it won't start.

When turning on the ignition, there is nothing happening in the display. There's a small "box" next to the battery which, after a few seconds, starts making a ticking noise. This noise continues steadily, and at the same time the display starts flashing on and off (not very quick). No reaction when pressing the engine start button.

Since I don't know what this small "box" which makes the ticking noise is, I was hoping someone here could identify it and maybe have an idea as to what might be wrong?

Fuel pump relay you say it started with a fresh battery 1st try.
Start with the battery as the most likely problem.

Hm. The battery is fully charged though, so if the battery is the problem it must be broken in some way. I haven't tried giving the battery power from the car battery though - I probably should test that.

Fully charged does not mean its a good battery take the
battery and have it tested. I would do that before using
a car battery to start the bike.

Ok? If the bike starts with the car battery connected to the bike battery, wouldn't that prove that the battery is faulty? Seems a quicker way than taking it to a shop and testing it.

But yes, of course. Fully charged doesn't necessarily mean fully functional.

Many stories of people causing more damage by using car
batteries to jump bikes and also people swear it will do
no damage. Any local parts place that sells batteries
should be able to test it for free.

I see your point, of course. In my case, however, there are no very local places selling batteries who also have anything resembling a garage. And tomorrow it's sunday

However, it'a still early in the spring, so I'm not really in any kind of hurry.

(I HAVE used a car to jump start my 900SS and 999 earlier though, with no problems. Especially the latter was VERY sensitive to the battery not being 100%, and needed that kind of help quite often.)

You must live in a remote area? The mods will ask you to
fill in your location and list your bike in your profile. I hope
its simple start with battery and work up electrical
problems are not fun. Next step check your grounds
etc. Good luck. Don't forget to search this forum
years of knowledge on your bike is here pretty
much every problem has been documented here.

When I bought my hyper it never started easy 2 or 3 sometimes 4 attempts . If it was below 60 degrees it wouldn't start. I put a new battery in and that didn't help. Winter before last I installed the hi cap battery cables , even with the almost 2 year old battery it made a big difference . A month ago i put a new yuasa battery in and all I can say is it starts in 2 seconds every time even in the low 40's . The factory battery cables are junk . I couldn't believe the difference when I compared the two side by side.

Since today is sunday, I tried troubleshooting a bit on my own. First with the battery reconditioned and recharged. Nothing.
Then with the jumper cables from the car connected to the bike's battery (modern cables with high current/voltage protection). Still nothing.

With the jumper cables from the car's battery connected to the bike's battery, even if the bike battery is faulty the bikes circuit should still
get power, shouldn't it? But the display and everything else is dead.

EDIT: A 30A fuse was blown, so that should explain everything being completely dead.
