.003 Closer shims
7500 miles and I just got my valve clearances measured. 3 openers are in spec, 1 is .005 and will get replaced. My problem is that all three of my closer shims I measured, and remeasured, are at .003. Here is my question:
I've heard that new half rings will add +.001 to the clearance. Should I try and replace just half rings and ride with .002, replace all 4 shims and NOT the half rings (anticipating the new ones will "break in" and increase the clearance again), or replace all 4 shims and half rings.
I don't constantly hit the rev limiter and ride this bike around town for 75% of the mileage. Perfect tolerance is less of a concern here but I want to do things right, not looking to save a dollar. I just think the half rings are suspect when my openers are generally in tolerance and my closers are generally out of tolerance by the exact same amount...
Any knowledge/experience is helpful
