So would the last 4 digits be the number of the bike in the production sequence starting with 0001?

2000 900ss, Remus GP exhaust, Marchesinis, Karbacher monoposto, Motowheels slipper clutch, Shorai.

My '92 900SS has some funny stuff in it, and doesn't line up with the decoder or anything else I can find.

The number is ZDM906SC2*00XXXX*

Now from what I can work out, the ZDM is right.

Next, the 906 seems to be out of whack with most other bikes ( SuperSport at least anyway ).

The SC2 seems fine.

Then we have a 5 pointed star ( the * above ). What the hell is a start doing in the vin number????

Then the 00XXXX number seems fine, but then another 5 pointed star????

Can anyone tell me what's up with my frame number please? The bike was sold new in Japan. From what I can make out on the decoder the number should be something pretty close to ZDM1LC4NXNB00xxxx

Z=Italy
ZDM=Ducati

ZCG = Cagiva

ZAP = Vespa

ZES = Bimota

The two letters after Z refer to the company and are called the WMI. The "M" in "ZDM" does not mean motorcycle.

Foreign VINs were not the same as US vins until around 1998 or so. I forget which year. I have an SS which is a 96 private import from Italy and it has the same VIN style.

95 916 s1

Is there a way to see how many 916's were released to US in 1995? Mine according to your VIN chart was made in Varese "V". Thanks James
And were these hand built?

Just for reference, I have a 2005 999R.
My 8th digit is W, but was not mentioned in the list.

Pretty cool info.

I came here actually to check how to determine a true "S" model. Would this be listed in the VIN?

More specifically, this is a 2000 996S supposedly.

Thanks
