Summary of Sport Classic Suspension and Damper posts

I recently checked out the latest Sport Classics at my dealer (first mistake) and later test rode a friendís (second one). With a long history of dirt and dual sport bikes, but new to Ducati including the SC and to this forum, I started to look into the suspension and handling issues Iíve heard of before choosing a year and model. Confused from the start, one thing led to another and I started keeping a list of some of the posts and threads which were helpful to me.

This is a review of mostly information from just the Sport Classic subforum. Iím sure thereís more elsewhere on this site but I havenít gotten there yet. I did include a few posts from other web sites, all of which were links included in ducati.ms posts. If this is a violation of this forumís rules, mods please feel free to delete. Iíve left out several posts which were duplicates and Iím sure I missed several important ones. So this is not an exhaustive review, just an exhausting one. Please feel free to reply with additions, corrections, etc. and I can try to edit or add as appropriate.

Hope new members find this helpful. Thanks for all the great info:

Thumbs up

Great work Mr. tape! Welcome to the forum. Now, there's a couple of oil threads that could be put in order..

GT1000 Gray
Completely stock except for: Dietrichs gauge lowerers and air filter cover, Motivation frame sliders, Rizoma grips and mirrors, custom mono- seat, Cox oil cooler screen, neked belts, black horns, 14t, Pazzo levers, SC front fender, GTRossi rear hugger, RaceTech springs. rear fender eliminated (dpcars)...and unbaffled Termis.
Yamaha 01 FZ1- gone

Let me see if I can condense this for the slackers among us:

1. Aside from the PS, the stock suspensions on all SCs suck. Period.

2. Install Ohlins, Traxxion/Penske or Showa replacements.

3. Replace stock spoker wheels & tire tubes w/ tubeless forged alloys.

4. Do #3 & #4 and you probably don't even need a steering damper.

It's an existential thing, rather like a paradox.

You forgot the most important bit of info:

Ignore everything you read. We are a bunch of bike nerds, and overanalyze everything.

So when you realized your mistakes (1 & 2), you decided against getting one? However, if you do get one, you'll be able to add your own views, opinions and experiences to this long list of references (very nice compilation indeed).
