Mystery hose

Well been doing some maintenance on the 996 and had both fairings off. When I pulled the left one off a rubber hose fell out of it. Looks to be a vent hose as there are no clamp marks etc. The fuel vent hose is present so what could this one be to? Anybody got any guesses? Does the air box have a vent hose? Thanks for any help.

the 996 has a large airbox vent drain but usually no hose on the bottom left front. There should be a tank drain and possibly a charcoal canister drain that come from the fuel tank on the left side and often exit in front of the alternator cover. you should have a wire hose holder there for the small hose. Often we have bikes with no charcoal can and the two drains Tee'd into one and run to the left front side of the engine.
