749 - Issue downshifting into Neutral & 1st

2005 749

Occasionally I will have an issue downshifting from 2nd gear. When I am approaching a stop and go to downshift I canít get into neutral or 1st unless I shift back up to 3rd and then down again.

Has anyone experienced this issue? I set the the gear selector properly using the Ducati tool, bled the clutch, measured the clutch plates and the clutch springs are torqued properly.

I donít have any issues downshifting from other gears. This is happening about 1/10 times I try to downshift into N or 1st

How did you bleed the clutch - did you discover the ingenious bleed valve inside the reservoir??
Does it go into gear with a clonk when you select first from neutral when stopped.
Have you replaced the plates recently??

sounds like the adjustment is off to me. what if you just lift the gearlever a touch, instead of going all the way into third? can you feel the hooks dropping over the pins if you shift it by hand with the engine off on a rear stand?

know all wanker

Judging by the clonk, it does sound as though clutch drag is an issue. However, if you have bled the system thoroughly and don't have new plates binding in the basket slots, then why??

How much play are you getting at the lever?? You only need to have a little play - 1-2mm, enough to ensure you are getting the full pressure of the springs holding the plates together. If you have more than that, you will not be getting full movement of the pressure plate.

I donít really have any play at the lever. As soon as I move the lever I can see the pressure plate move

I aligned the gear selector with the 88713-3334 tool which replaced the 88713-1091 (the tool shown in the 749 service manual)

Does anyone know if these are different?
