996 OEM exhaust parts problems

I have this rebuild project going on while waiting for summer. It started out with a 2001 996S, the European version with SPS engine. Very nice bike; mint condition, low mileage. And all OEM when I stared to work.
Or so I thought…?
The exhaust, including cylinder manifolds, head pipes, collectors/exhaust pipes and silencers, is all 50mm. The silencers are marked ZDM-A18 and ZDM-B18 (ZDM being Ducati, I think). I know for certain that they came standard on this bike. And the 996S EU came, as far as I know, with a full 50mm exhaust, as did the 2000 996 SPS.

In need of a new horizontal headpipe, I used the bikes part catalogue, ordered one through my usual online Ducati OEM-store, and received a 45mm pipe. Wrapped in plastic with the right part number for 996S/EU and Termi logo. Problem is, I already have this 45mm headpipe, it’s from a standard 996 Biposto and marked ZDM-M14.

So I checked the different exhaust systems part numbers of the exhaust parts mentioned above in part catalogues for the -01 996 Biposto, the -01 996 S/US-version, the 996 S/EU-version, and the -00 996 SPS.

The -01 996 Biposto and the -01 996 S/US-version are easy, they have same part numbers on everything. But the only part number they share with S/EU and SPS, is for the exhaust gasket.

The 996 S/EU and the -00 996 SPS share two part numbers: the silencer clamps, and the vertical exhaust head pipe, #571.1.022.1D. This pipe came with my 996 S and has an engraved code on it: ZDM-N17.

But they don’t share horizontal exhaust head pipes. - 01 996S has #570.1.022.1A. This pipe’s on my bike and has an engraved code on it: ZDM-M17. - 00 SPS has #570.1.022.1D.

And I have some questions… The 996 S/EU did come with a full 50mm exhaust? The SPS did, and they share vertical exhaust pipe. But how come I get a 45mm pipe from Ducati, instead of a 50mm?
And where can I get hold of a 50mm horizontal pipe – maybe from another model with 50mm exhaust, but witch?
I've tried all the OEM-shops I know of: The pipe is either listed as no longer available, or the 45mm ZDM-M14 pops up. Tried eBay and google. No luck at all. And now the sun's almost back too... snow shoud be gone in a couple of months. Help would be highly appreciated.

In case you need any reassurance, my 996S, RIP, (EU model sold in the UK) came with a full 50mm system, including horizontal header.
I was about to offer you a 50mm horizontal header to buy, then I realized it is a 998 piece, with different mounting to the exhaust port. Good luck on you hunt.

Thanks, confirmation is good, and now I know for certain that midpipes from a 998 or 748R won't work.
I don't know how many models of the 916 family Ducati made with 50mm exhaust, but it's probably only the SP/SPS models. And 996S/EU, which was the last one. Then came the testastretta. And if I needed a vertical mid pipe, I could have used one from a 748R or a 998; same part number as 996 S/EU.

the only 50mm exhaust came on the 916/996SPS and the 2001 euro 996S.

what tends to happen is that someone in the spare parts dept at ducati, with no idea of what fitted what 18 years ago, has superceded the number to the one that fits everything else that sounds like the one that has something different. it's wrong, but 1/ they don't know that and 2/ they don't give a shit that it inconveniences you.

years ago they superceded 916 exhaust valves to the st4 part number. someone thought more modern number, must the better. except for the fact they're about 10mm shorter.

termi don't make the 50mm systems anymore, so you can find a s/h one or fix the one you have.

Thanks.

...and if someone need a midpipe, it's only 250$.
