CANBUS data on you Android device via bluetooth

I'll start by admitting that this is semi (read mainly) pointless, but I have managed to decode much of the 2010-12 MTS1200 CANBUS data, stream it over bluetooth to my android phone and display it live on screen. The work started with a post on here about a year ago "decoding the canbus" (don't get out on the bike much during the winter!).

A chunk of the data replicates what is already displayed on the dashboard (e.g. rpm, rear wheel speed, time, engine and ambient temps, brake and indicator lights, engine mode etc.), but there is quite a bit more besides, and more that I am still working on decoding. For example I can display all of the individual suspension settings, throttle position, twist grip position, engine load, DTC setting etc etc.

The reason I say it is only semi pointless is because I'm sure this may be useful to someone, some day, to aid fault finding. Other than that it is mainly just a gimick.

The app has just been thrown together and just displays everything on one screen in individual text boxes at the moment as this is the first app I've ever created. Will post more details if anyone is interested.

Hi Mr CanBus
I think it could be extremely useful to be able to see all the sensor data.
I think quite a few people will be interested in this.
Thanks
Nick

Take a look at this website:
Skully Helmets

Suddenly bluetooth CANBUS data seems MUCH more useful.

Also I believe they have or will release an open source development kit.

Djgarret - those Skully helmets look interesting.

It got me thinking, it shouldn't be too hard to get android to play audio alerts that I will then be able to hear through my Sena headset, e.g. "indicators" when I forget to turn them off (or the crapping cancel switch doesnt work again).

Very cool!

Yes please do post details...even screen shots would be great. If you are so inclinded, an open sourcing of what you've done would be great and could leave to some cool goodies for us all...(Unless of course your plan is to commercialize an app.

Happy to give people access to the code on an open source basis, and the arduino code. Will try and post a screen shot tonight, but it is "basic"

This is just a screen grab of the app without data. I'm transmitting 27 parameters at the moment with about 4 of those being unknown (I think they are lambda or MAP).

Interesting. I like it.
There are a number of OBD II readers for autos that run on either an iPhone or an android device. I have one for my truck and I use it to display various fluid temperatures/instantaneous mileage/and a compass. I think it is nice idea.

I do recall the discussion here last year and had wondered what had developed from your labors. Well done!

This isn't OBD but end result is obviously similar. OBD readers tend to request specific values from the ECU, this is monitoring all the traffic on the bus.
