Great advice from tamworth. Fronts are relatively cheap, if you are replacing rear and chain it's just smart to do all 3.

Makes for a wheelie machine, I’m probably going to put the 15 back on but in the mountains that 14 is sweet.

I went 15-42 w/ quick changer last weekend, I like the gearing better for general use, fuel consumption seems to have taken a hit but not really enough data on that yet. If increased fuel consumption proves out and I do any touring (realistically not before next year now), I think I'd get an extra chain and a 40T as I like to go as far as possible between fuel stops.

Yea it's pretty giggle inducing... but after a couple years of this silliness and with a bike over 50,000 miles (and planning for a V4 Streetfighter in my not too distant future), I'm going back to 15/40 530 for general use. I AM however keeping a 525 chain/sprocket set at 14/42 that I can swap on when I want to get stupid.

Riding back from going to 14/40. Heavy traffic, stop and go, lots of sub-10mph work, some splitting.
The really slow speed handling seemed easier (sub 5mph). At that awkward ~20-35 splitting speed, it seemed much happier in second than before.

Will advise as I get more commutes under my belt.

Well, back to stock (from 14/42), bike is now much less likely to get me a ticket (leaning forward in 2nd at WOT now keeps the front wheel planted at DWC 2).

Will be interested to see if my fuel economy recovers.

Also back to 530 chain - 525 is definitely lighter but cost me a LOT of durability (at 14/42 the DID ZVMX chain lasted around 10,000 miles - and it was definitely toast, making that crackling noise and with enough stretch that with the loosest section set correctly it binds badly at the tightest section).

Also not going to keep the 525 sprockets... there was enough visible wear that if I want to have a shenanigans gearing setup I'll just buy another full set and spare masterlinks.

I can appreciate reversing that 14/42 hooligan decision which equate to +5R.
However, (and this is just my personal opinion), I can never go back to 15/40 now that I've tasted the Multi at +2R with 15/42.

So my plan is Streetfighter next spring for troublemaking - Multi (which is now over 50,000 miles) in the less stressful job of touring, maybe the occasional commute.

That is - if I can float it past the wife.
