Exvl...... Wtf?

I have a 2010 Multistrada and have noticed tonight that it is giving me an 'EXVL ERROR'.

Scuse my ignorance but what is this error for, what does it mean, how do I fix it and finally is it expensive to fix ?

This is an error generated as a result of a problem with the valve in the exhaust. Upon start up, your bike will cycle the exhaust valve. If there is a problem doing so, it will throw the code. Look at the cat/muffler. On the right side of the bike, you will see where a cable comes in to a contraption with a spring. My guess is that something is wrong there (probably a broken spring). Take a look at it and report back if you still have questions. Hope this helps.

I think that they get gummed up and stick??? Not sure for sure...
Don't panic yet

Maybe just some lubing up may help???

Bad decisions make for good stories

If you want to bypass the servo search for a product called Duc.ee. It will allow you to remove the servo without getting an error code.

Last week my '10 popped up with that code, and the exhaust flapper valve quit cycling at power up. Unfortunately, the day before I had just resigned myself to the fact that I had a steady oil leak after my recent engine rebuild, and then this stupid code showed up. Needless to say, I was pissed. The code hung around for a few days, and then it went away, and the valve started working again. Hopefully just a few confused electrons that have now found their way...

I had the arrow exhaust on my bike, which uses a small plate on exhaust stepper motor so you don't get exvl error, but the motor had started to make a grinding noise, and when I refitted the standard exhaust it failed altogether and two of the plastic gears inside the stepper motor gearbox had stripped their teeth,so I had to buy a secondhand motor to repair.lucky one was advertised on fleabay and wasn't expensive.

You should've just got yourself the DUC.EE and keep the whole servo-motor out of there.

secondhand stepper motor was cheaper option, plus i want the bike standard ready for resale.i've had the coolant recall which mean mine could end up with porous heads, and since the dealers want a huge amount to part ex for a 2013 model i will shortly be leaving the ducati fold
