Best tires for ST4 on Big Ride Up Coast

I'm prepping my 2001 ST4 for the ride from San Diego up to the top of California at Fort Bragg and want to put good long-wearing tires that can handle rain, curves and city traffic.
I intend to change out my brake and clutch fluids as well as the engine oil and filters. The chain looks good and I will be looking at the brake pads, as well.

We roll northward on the 13th of this month, so please put in your two cents asap. This willbe my first ride that is more than like two hours from home. I'm so looking forward to it!

I'll also be putting the panniers on.

Been running Michelin Pilot Road 4's and couldn't be more happy with them. Just threw on the new 5's on the ZX11, so far so good. I get 5500 miles or so running 34 front and 38 rear psi on ST4s and 6000 on ZX11 running 36 front and 39 rear. Never tried the Angel STs but some guys like them.

I second Pacabada. Any of the Michelin Pilot Road series are awesome tires.

I know of super cheap people still running PR2's!

I'm jelly,,, you're gonna have so much fun on your 1st trip. Nothing is like your 1st time.

I don't think you can go wrong with any name brand sport touring tire these days.

I am running Angel ST on my ST4s and I love them, wearing well too. I had always used sport tires on my ST, Pilot Powers primarily, and the Angels were my first try with something not made to double as a track day tire. I can say the Angels don't give much up in the sport category except maybe the low mileage thing. They are smooth, stable and they grip like anything else I've used. Did a long day in the wet a few weeks ago. Never felt concerned, although the pace was pretty subdued.

PR4's or the Road 5's for sure. The Angel GT's are nice but they have a much shallower profile which doesn't feel as nice as the Michelins. Also, the Michelins on average outlast the Angel GT's by about 1,000 miles before the rear is flat spotted and front cupped to roughly the same degree.

Just put on a set of Dunlop Roadsmart 3 on my ST4, good grip wet or dry. Should be a great ride I grew up in Southern California and traveled many times up US 1 on my Honda 400 four. While you’re doing some maintenance remember to torque the engine mounting bolts.

+1 on the Dunlop Roadsmart III's, I'm on my second set running 37psi front, 39psi rear, getting about 5000 miles on a set. They hold great and good in the wet . I've had PR 2-3's, Pirelli angel St and gt's over 17yrs. The Dunlops have been the best performing and longest lasting tire for me. I weigh 275 lbs , your results may very!
Their also offering up to $100 rebate on them as well, which sweetens the deal.

Been loving the PR4s on my Triumph Sprint ST, putting PR5 on ST4S next week.

The 4s have been fantastic. Excellent feel, plenty of grip, and real confidence builders when corners get a bit sketchy. So far wear has been very minimal.

My first set was the Pirelli's, then I switched to the PR4's. I like the PR4's better. Great grip and do better on wet roads. I also got more miles out of them. I'm on my 2nd set. Don't know anything about the PR5, but I imagine they are even better.

My buddy has PR5's on his BMW R1150RT. He did the 4 corners two years ago, and he's still riding on the same tires. Probably over 15,000 miles!

He's doing a new set this season. They are just about to the wear marks in the rear.
