Here's what I use:

The base is the Mini Mount from Ducati Designs and on top of that I have a RAM Mount combination with the X-grip holding the phone. Power is supplied by the SAE-USB adapter which I plug into the battery tender lead when riding.

I use the CoPilot app which doesn't require a data connection since the maps are stored on the phone. All it needs is a gps signal. CoPilot is Freemium ware and I'll be springing for the $10 upgrade which gives me voice prompts and the ability to side load custom routes.

Here's the setup I've been using with my Garmin 276C (and more recently Montana 600) for the last 40,000 km on my 2005 ST3. It's a RAM 1" ball offset base with a stove bolt (1/4" I believe) through it and a peice of fuel hose sandwiched between nut/washer and end of the stove bolt. I think I had to grind down the end of the head of the stove bolt a bit to fit snugly into the bar end.

The RAM arm gently rests on the top of the fork leg adjuster (that's a white plastic bottle cap to protect the finish) secure/solid, cheap, easily removable. We also used these on rental ST3 bikes in Italy a couple years ago. 2 minutes to install/remove!

I've made a base plate which is mounted below the ignition lock. On that base plate, I can mount whatever I want. The good thing is, that the GPS is always on the same position and does not rotate with the handle bars - it is always in front of the ignition lock.
First version was with a Sony phone with GPS:

Second version is with the Apple 5 navigation and a Touratech iBracket:

And it does not matter that I do not have a fairing anymore - it works with or without fairing and with or without SBK handle bar.
Charger is connected to the lights - so it only charges when my light are on (so after starting). Below the tank, there is a usb connector for the Apple USB charger.
Hope it helps.

I thought that too, anyone with a vise, hammer saw and drill could knock that up in an hour or so. I'm going to make my own version over the weekend, currently the mount i have isn't the best, there's a bolt hole on the front of the top triple, I've got a piece of aluminum bent at 90 degrees with a ram adapter screwed to that, it's worked well for the past couple of years but a solution like the mini mount looks far cleaner :-)

I don't have a photo. However I use rokform as my mount.
It's awesome. Check out the website.
If ordering, there is always a coupon around somewhere for them. Google it.
It is not cheap but we'll worth it.

I'm with you, Bill. Paul's a genius in terms of design / functionality and he supports the greater Ducati community.

Jet057,

I guess you would throw Paul and LT (owners of Ducati Designs & Desmo Times respectively) into the same camp of thieves? Now let me get this straight... they invest their time and effort into putting forth products that many of us find extremely useful with respect to the modification and upkeep of these bikes but, somehow, they are ripping us off when they charge a slight premium for the products they offer-up? Makes absolutely no sense to me but I guess if you want to go the ebay route and buy some highjacked idea which is ultimately produced in a low cost labor market, that's your prerogative.
