Help: Anyone in New Zealand

can some one in New Zealand verify a buyer of my 1198?

i listed it on ebay and the winning bidder is from Auckland with 0 rating. he's given me the deposit and wants to wire transfer the rest. i am still
skeptical. his paypal name and shipping address name do not match; not even last names.

if i can get his phone number, i was wondering if you can put a call to him and feel him out.

or is there a better suggestion?

I know the area, grew up not far away from it, and if I can assist I will although I'm several hours away now. I know someone who lives there, at least he did when we last communicated quite along time ago. Sad how one loses contact with old friends.
Anyway ... I'm a little confused.
He's paid you a deposit and wants to pay the rest via bank transfer .. what is the problem ?
Are you concerned that he's trying to access your account ?
Just get your bank to receive the funds and then they deposit them into your account.
At least one of you will be avoiding the 4% Paypal fee that way.

yes of course i am afraid that somehow, he'll slip a worm and retract the amount. my banker told me that i can transfer the funds into a different account once received.

it just doesn't make sense that he can't find a 1198 in NZ or AUS, and the first thing he buys on ebay is mine???

It does make sense because the exchange rate is very favourable for buying from the US. Ducatis are priced high in NZ and even higher in Oz.
If I was looking I'd do the same, I've purchased alot of Duc stuff from there and even with freight it's often considerably cheaper.
I hear your concern but just do what the bank advises and you'll be fine.
NZ is not a corrupt country with a poor reputation like Eastern Europe, Nigeria etc but of course there are scumbags here to.

Yep - As I said in the PM

Currently on trade me there are only a few 1198's for sale on Trademe (kiwi eBay) and with the current exchange rate would cost $16-18k USD!

Even with shipping, tax and GST, buying a bike from the US will still save you some coin. It's just more hassle!

I just bought a 916 ex California (via Craigslist)

I paid via what you call Wire Transfer (Bank to Bank electronic transfer) as I found it the easiest and easily traceable way. Seller and me had no issues.

Shipping and freighting is dead easy. Bill of sale and pink slip is all the shipping company needs. Leave the bike in sellers name. Bike took 4 weeks from drop off to my pick up.

As above I bought out of US due to exchange rate and limited availability of model I wanted.

Would do it again.

Seems strange the person has not rung you. That was the 1st thing I did after seeing ad for my bike. Rang seller a couple of times to sort things out. Helps both sides to be more comfortable.

luke, much thanks to your PM.

i've sent an email to his paypal address and requested for a phone, mailing address.

i feel better about this.

how does the shipping work? will someone be coming to my house or do i have to deliver to the shipping company? i assume the shipping company will prep the bike for ship.

Unsure how he will do shipping. I bought my bike in Cali and got the seller to drop off to shipping company.

Just give them the bike..as is. Mine arrived with battery still connected but no fuel...so guess they (shipping company) may have sucked that out. Shipping company will sort it.

The Bill of Sale must have full name address of seller and buyer, dated and selling price. Name and seller will of course match details on pink slip.
