Sight Glass 2009 848cc

There is oil half way up the sighting Glass when running I have been told this is not good any ideas please.

Have someone sit on the bike or hold it upright, the oil level should be between the low and high marks on sight glass.

Oil is checked without engine running

Thanks this is OK and I understand......But what I am saying is there is oil in the sighting glass when the engine is running.

Never looked, but would assume is oil level is correct at rest, who cares.

Potentially not good under any circumstances.
There's clearly too much oil in the engine if it's visible in the sight glass when running.
No oil should be visible in the sight glass when the engine is running.

I would suggest removing some oil at the drain plug when it's cold, to bring the level in accordance with the owners manual.
About a cup full, will be all you need to remove.

With the engine cold, check oil level in the sight glass with the bike upright/vertical.
The level should be somewhere between the lines on the crankcase. (engine not running)
On my 1098 SFS the level is at the top line when cold, and right at the very top of the sight glass when hot. (engine not running)

Are you looking for problems? Ducati say check the oil with the engine stopped and give specs for where is should be. They give no specs for where is should be when the engine is running because you should not even be looking at the sight glass with the engine running!
