Talking Shell pureplus (natural gas) 10W40 15w50

Thumbs up Shell advance ultra pureplus technology
Progress!! IT'S COMING
To be clear, I am not talking about Shell Advance Ultra 4T 10W-40 15W50…
This thread is about the natural gas base (PUREPLUS)…
I got a response from

Edward A. Calcote
Staff Chemist
Shell Lubricants North America Technical Information Center

here is the copy/paste

Fabien,

I do see that the product with our PurePlus Technology is planned for introduction in the US, but I have not seen a definitive timeline. I would assume this will be contingent upon our running out stock of any of the current stock “pre-“ PurePlus product.

Of course, you are likely aware the product can be difficult to find under the best of circumstances – there just isn’t a large installed base of users for the oil. Your best bet would be to cultivate a relationship with one of our distributors, and the largest in the Bay Area is Golden Gate Petroleum. Other distributors can be found by using the locator at Distributor Locator - United States.

Thank you for your interest in Shell/Pennzoil/Quaker State Lubricants!

Good for them;but there are many oils out there that are just as good, if not better. I personally never had a "dirty" engine running on brand "X" synthetic. Also their advertising focuses on cleanliness and not protection.

Well said. All modern oils out there are good these days and even if you pay 10 times as much you will never notice the difference.
Just remember that oil companies do not exist to do nice things for you and they are just there to part you from your money.

Blackstone lab analysed some penzoil/shell pureplus and it's "rich", plenty of additives. Shell pureplus feed the news BMW mottorad engines including the S1000RR, so this oil must perform pretty well, run clean and protect. Future will tell.

Or you might say that Shell is in the new BMW engines because it is as good as any other oil and they give it to BMW for next to nothing.
Do not forget that what BMW America puts into a bike may not be the same as what BMW Australia or BMW UK uses, they all have their own favourite oil from a company that charges them the least. All of these people are in business for only one thing - to make the maximum amount of money that they can.

I would use Shell Advance if:

- It was available
- Didn't cost more than other oils I consider more true to the term "synthetic"

I have Silkolene ester 15W50 in now, and a jug of Spectro PAO/Ester blend 15W50 on the way for impending oil change. I'm on the fence about whether or not to drop an add'l $30 to send a sample of the Silkolene off the Blackstone for analysis to see how it held up for 4000 miles.

BMW America use oil made in Germany. It's on the bottle and it's already natural gas base on sale since January this year... Advantec pro... Maybe BMW Germany put oil made in America. Lol
