Damn, into November already, it's past time to copy and paste again! If you've been you know how special this event is. If you're thinking about it - DO IT! The Blueridge Parkway, the Cherohala Skyway, the Tail of The Dragon, Route 28 - riding with frens makes these epic twisties even epic-er.
(You'll be even faster in the evening when you recount the day's adventures over beers (and whatever) in the parking lot.
See attached pic for room and cabin rates. We strongly encourage folks to PLEASE BOOK A ROOM IN THE LODGE rather than hiding in the far off cabins. It's more fun to drunkenly scrum in the bike filled parking lot.
I currently have a poolside room in the lodge. Figured that was a safe bet for the time being until I talk to Layla/Lana tomorrow. The lady tonight (with a strong enough southern accent I couldn’t understand) said she wasn’t sure about the rate other than what the computer told her.
So my beautiful bride and I were looking to make vacation plans for next year. We found a camp ground on the beach in SC that looked like a great spot to spend some time for her birthday. When we found that the only week open was the same week of ECM, she quickly said to pick another week. She didn't want me to miss ECM! I've got a beautiful bride, right?
Me! Varmitcong picked me up from the airport, put me up for the night, let me drive his car to dialysis, brought us to Fontana in his truck and trailer and let me ride his hyper for the weekend. Plus, as an added bonus, took me on a completely terrifying ride to the airport!
That Varm-dude. He's alright.
I've been twice(#VII and IX, or was it IV,Dmitry). Trailered down from VT both times. I would like to ride down one of these times but there's usually time limitations that make trailering more viable. Dadridesagain has mentioned parking at the top of the BRP and riding down from there in the past.
In a perfect world , I would take 2 weeks, ride any twisty roads available from VT to Front Royal,VA
Take Skyline to BRP to Fontana, meet and ride with ECMers , and head back thru W.Virginia(I've heard there's great riding there as well).
The nice thing about trailering is you can pack all the stuff you may need, the weather can fluctuate greatly (had some flurries on the Cherahola at ECM VII), good to have extra layers/rain gear not limited to what you can carry on your bike...
my 2¢...
Trailering is fun but riding is my favorite. The best ever was the couple of times I’ve ridden from Houston to Orlando and taken the Autotrain up to Lortan and ridden down the Skyway and BRP to Fontana. Meeting up with the New England crew in Front Royal is like party on dudes.
I would really like to do that again.
But then the first time I met up with the Colonel and the Floriduh crew was pretty special too.
I would LOVE to do a (more relaxed) Iron Butt again. That was so much fun linking up in Front Royal and riding in a group down the BRP. Olga says I can buy another bike AFTER we get some built in's done in the bedroom, so I'm thinking 2020 GS1250 cuz gotta have one of those at some point...
Last time I rode a GS850, the damn thing tried to kill me. The throttle cables had been improperly routed and it hung wide open on me. The front brake was non-existent. The back brake worked, but the damn tire was so hard that it locked up easily and didn't slow me down much at all. I sailed right through a red light.
It's been a rough week up here in VT.
A couple of feet of heavy, wet snow followed by power outage for 3 days, now it's raining out!
Is it May yet FFS!!!
