New SuperSport?
Take a look at today's www.motorcycledaily.com, where there is an article and sketch of a new SuperSport. I like the sketch a lot; what do others think?

it looks very nice, but it no longer has the soft lines and relaxed appeal to it. it looks too serious to me. that's my 2 cents.

Very sharp. Looks like a cross between the 999 and 1098.

I'd prefer softer edges too, but when it comes right down to it, the hardware is what would make me say yea or nay to it...

A few of us have been chatting about this in another thread. See http://www.ducati.ms/forums/showthread.php?t=57356 . Consensus has it that Ducati should build it. Hope they can take a hint.

When I visited the recent International Motorcycle Show and the Ducati exhibit, I mentioned my desire for a new SS and was told (by a very young salesperson) that the combination of relatively low HP plus light weight wouldn't sell in the American market. He said the 848 was built to satisfy these needs. I say the 848 is too race-track focused and that a new SS is still needed in the Ducati lineup.

Please Mr Duc!
Build it and there are many, many who will buy it. I have been reading the comments on the similar thread running at the moment. Some great ideas running through the thread. It seems that the consensus is 1100 ds motor, light weight, slightly less sharp in the overall look (less SBK more SS) undertail or high mount pipes, im with the high mounts and bugger it, any colour they like as long as they include Red, Yellow and please, please, Black.
Now if anyone has the head of Ducati marketing,s email address send him the link to this site, hey we can all dream right!
Cheers to all.

this would be MY 1000SS...softer lines, dual pipes, relaxed angles. good for jeans and a soft jacket to the local cafe, or full leathers with a new pair of sliders. meeeeeeoooooowwwwww....

The pic is PURE fantasy. But if they did make something similar, they should cut off the fairing right about where the 1000SS sticker is, in line with the tank's lines, and offer the full fairing as an option. Needs to be slightly less sporty in ergos than the current 848/1098/1198, too. And an entry level motor option would be great, too. Maybe a massaged 696 motor in addition to the 1100DS motor. Keep it simple and clean and just a very useable, sporty motorcycle, not a superbike wannabe or just different take on a supersport category machine. Do that, and I'd seriously consider an 1100SS.

Nathan,
Your ideas are spot-on, I think. Two versions (696 and 1100) with two fairings offered (1/2 and 3/4), though I believe the 3/4 style shown would satisfy many, as the motor is in clear view.
The sketch a fantasy? Well, yes, but it looks pretty close to me for what a new SS might be like, don't you think?
