I was in NYC last night and saw a guy drive by with a yellow Sport 1000. He had retrofitted tube style handlebars on and looked a HELL of a lot more comfortable riding it than I do!

Anyone know of such a kit or should I just make one on my own by starting with a stock upper triple?

If for example it is the date of manufacture, an 07 might have a manufacture date in late 06 or sometime in 07 and if the bike is bought new from a dealer now the only warranty would be the 2 year Duc warranty. Any help appreciated!

A little thoroughly disgusted with myself. When I bought my used GT 2 months ago, it looked absolutely brand new. This said, however, after one recent 500 mile trip I made a frustrating discovery when I shined up the bike after returning - a silver dollar size unbuffable rub mark made on the rear of the tank by my mesh jacket, now almost through the paint even. It's on the upper left hand side of the rear of the tank, right above and to the left of where the family meets the tank :) Someday I hope to actually get the full on tank bra/tank cover with bag, but for now does anyone on here have a rear tank protector on their GT or have any more temporary, less expensive solutions? Tank protector? Maybe a bra that is less expensive than the 350 buck tank/bra DP combo?

My Duc mechanic, such a comedian, said "Ah, don't worry about it, you'll have a new tank in 6 months". Funny guy.

Total newb question here, but anyone have advice on cleaning the rim after a good chain oiling? I'm sooo used to shaft drive bikes, I completely forgot about how chain oil can just go anywhere. I applied the stuff and let the bike sit overnight even, thinking that might help but it still threw some on the rim the next day. When I went to clean it off last night while washing the bike, the stuff was stubborn to move. I even got out the Dawn and applied it directly to the lube on the rim, still barely budged. If it was anything but chrome, I'd use a mild degreaser, but I once got degreaser on the chrome on another bike and it badly clouded it. Any advice? Maybe I even need to try a different lube? My vintage KZ400 has a chain but a really narrow rim so it's not much of an issue - with the GT's fat rim, it seems to get onto more of the surface places.

Having had my SC for two and a half years the OE tyres were reaching the end of their life and a puncture just made it a month earlier than I'd planned.
After a bit of confused chin stroking over the choice of replacement I opted for another Pirelli, the Angel ST. Listed as more of a touring tyre I wasn't looking for anything more radically sporty as I think they are actually less useful on normal roads and sometimes a liability in wet and cold weather.

My initial concern was looking at the profiles of some tyres, the angels looked much 'steeper' - more triangular in profile than some of the other choices. While the original phantoms were far from a good tyre they were stable and relatively slow steering (something that seemed common to all the Ducatis I've owned over the past twelve years) which meant a solid input was needed to turn initially but a relatively neutral feel after that.

My very first little run with the Angels proved my initial thoughts about the profile, it made the bike feel really different and seemed to steer very quickly indeed, almost to the point where I thought they may have been overinflated. However the initial surprise soon wore off and I got used to the much lighter input needed to enter corners and the nice planted feeling while cornering.
Only done about forty of fifty miles on them so far due to time constraints, these were done on quite twisty back roads with a mix of surfaces and bumpy repaired sections, mostly between 50 and about 80mph but am looking forward to putting in some more miles on my 'new bike'. I did also notice the heat in the tyre from my two short local runs was comparatively higher than I remember for the phantoms for such a short run,so they should get up to working temprature quicker too.

I do think its a real oversight by most bike magazines(particularly British ones) who stick tyres onto some random superbike and proceed to test them on tracks using lap times and the much misused term of 'feel' without commenting on aspects like if they are neutral steering, fast or slow compared to a control or base tyre and other normal road riding concerns rather than what they are like at the very edge of the tyre on full lean.

I haven't tried them in the wet though one of the clincher for this choice was speaking to a couple of guys who have been using them for a while now, they reported no worries about their performance on wet roads, always a bonus in the UK.

I've had my eye on the GT 1000 for a few years but have been riding an R1200GS that I'm happy with. I'm not getting any younger and I'm thinking if I'm ever going to own one, it had better be sooner rather than later. The GT 1000 and the Multi are the only Ducs I'd consider due to riding position and the GT appeals to me more -- besides the Multi being closer to my GS which I'm going to keep. I've been doing my homework the last few days and am shocked to discover the tank swelling problem and the fact that that it still hasn't been cured after four years. The local dealer has a red GT that I was drooling over but how could I or anyone buy one when you know the tank is going to turn into an oversized silicone breast implant in a few months or a year? Are the only ones being sold going to buyers without a clue? Or am I missing something here?
