So I thought I would post up my experience of 2 parts I have swapped.

The first is the Oberon clutch slave. I have to say very easy install and an amazing difference on the effort needed to pull the clutch. It was night and day and took a minute to get used to. But now with shorty levers I can easily use just 2 fingers without them wearing out in traffic.

Second is marchesini forged aluminum wheels. I have only installed the front so far as the back was damaged and is being repaired. I paid $200 for the set. But today I got the front installed and it is again a night and day difference in the handling. Much less effort needed to turn, rather shocking how much difference it actually made in the feel of the bike.

Ok, here's the deal..

I've come to a dead end with my bike. (No spark at all !!)

The bike is a '99 996 sps with 20 miles on it. Very good condition. But suddenly last wednesday, it was idling for warmup before a ride, then it suddenly stalled.

I've gone over all the wiring harness, relays, plugs, plug caps, sensors, fuel system, and so on.. everything! And all is in prestine shape, but still no spark.

But I did find out that the mounting bolts for the ecu (p8) had been teard off, and the ecu has bin bouncing on the frame for probaly years!! The ecu cover was almost warn thru! :-0

So the only thing left to check is the ecu! Can the ecu suddenly die? have anyone experinced this? could the eprom just die?

I've pulled both, and they both looks like new. No burns or any sign of damage at all! It has never been opened before either. So I would think thats not the problem, BUT anything else has bin checkes and so to say ruled out.

I've also talked to two different ducati dealers, and they bot just scratch their heads and said, sorry.. you've tested everything I would test, so I can't help you anymore. You have to bring her in.

I usulally fix all my problems myself, but this is the first time I've ever manige to NOT fix the problem.

So my question.. (last shot).. can I pull my friends ecu (1,6 from a 748 sps) and put in my bike and put in my eprom.. Will it work? or do I have to have another P8 ecu? This is to see if my ecu is broken. Hopefully rule that out too.

Any other ideas what it can be? Maybe I've gone blind working hours on the bike everyday for a week now!

I also lost a ducati-trip with my friends over the mountains last weekend due to this problem! :(

Help!

In advance, thanks!

Anyway this is what I have so far maybe I can get a step in the right direction.

Changed the plugs. THe vertical was fouled and I think there was a bad connection between the plug and the wire. The horizontal was fine.

CHecked compression vertical 135psi horizontal 160psi. THis is a big split (I think) but not sure if it is for Ducati. WHat do you think?

Havent' gone into it more than that for now. BUt it will start right up with the fast idle on. And it will keep running as long as it is above 2000RPM anything below that it stalls right away. And it actually sounds like its running way slower than 2000 RPM even though thats what the Tach is reading. COuld the Tach be off and slowing down the idle below a stalling speed?

I am not looking to track this bike in the near future. I had 8 bikes in the past 10 years. Riding motorcycle is just a weekend hobby so I am not as confident and competitive as to my driving skill. Please share the pros and cons base on your perspective. Your input would be helpful!
