F L E D A Dual Row System:

PAK BIKES LLC is announcing the FLEDA Dual Row (FLEDA-DR) system.

The FLEDA-DR is basically the same system as the original FLEDA with an additional row of flexible LEDs.

PLEASE "CLICK HERE" for images and movies of the FLEDA-DR System.

There are 3 columns of images. Each column represents a different configuration for the FLEDA-DR system.

The 2nd column is exactly the same as the original FLEDA just with a second row of LEDs.

The 3rd column has 120 RED LEDs (pixels) across the top row and this row operates as the tail light and break function. The bottom row is exactly the same as the original FLEDA, performing tail light, break light and turn signal functions.

The 1st column has 30 LEDs for tail light and break function and 45 LEDs on each side for turn signal function. This is the same for both rows. This configuration was requested from Derek in Western Australia who was the genesis for the FLEDA-DR system. You will note that the 1st column images of the FLEDA-DR has the license plate illuminator attached directly to the license plate bracket. This was done to accommodate the larger Australian license plate. I am NOT providing a license plate frame for Derek.

In all the above configuration the turn signal LEDs are still switch selectable to operate as tail/running lights.

The original under FLEDA license plate bracket and illuminated frame fit the FLEDA-DR system.

The FLEDA-DR will retail for $495 USD. Please note that I am also increasing the price on the under seat back by the battery license plate frame with illuminated frame from $99 to $129 and shipping and handling is increasing from $20 to $35. The under seat back by the battery license plate frame and illuminated frame will remain at $99. (all in USD).

I am anticipating starting to ship the FLEDA-DR system sometime around mid May (2007).

A huge thanks to JC for providing the FLEDA-DR photo/movie gallery.

As always, a HUGE thanks to everyone for their support and suggestions!!!!

Should I Upgrade To The Fleda-dr?????

Quote:
Hi Phil,
I'm a happy buyer of the first generation FLEDA for my Paul Smart. Should I upgrade to double row? I'm curious about the reasons for the change. Also, do you know of any options to replace the front turn signals.
Thanks,
Jeff

Hi Jeff,

GREAT question! I have copied the FLEDA group on my response since I am sure others have been thinking along these very same lines.

I developed the FLEDA-DR system because some folks wanted more light and less hassle from their "officers of the law". Specifically, Derek in Western Australia. In Derek's case I even lowered the LED count for the break/tail light functions from 40 LEDs each row to 30. At the same time, I increased the turn signal LEDs from 40 LEDs to 45 LEDs for each side (right and left) and both rows. I need to maintain a total of 120 LED for each row so the arrays will fit the FLEDA plates correctly and be aesthetically pleasing.

I should note that from the feedback I have received and comments posted on Ducati.ms related to being stopped for a tail light infraction, it so far does not seem to be an issue.

The FLEDA-DR setup I am getting the most interest in is the basic FLEDA but two rows of LEDs. 40 LEDs for break/tail light function X 2 rows and 40 LEDs for the turn signals (right and left) X 2 rows. This is the FLEDA-DR.

My personal favorite is having one row entirely RED LEDs in a RED tube for break/tail light functions on the top row and the standard FLEDA setup on the bottom row. I will also be building the reverse. That is the 120 RED LED section will be on the bottom.

Also to add some additional choices, the 120 RED setup can come in a RED tube or a CLEAR tube.

There is NO reason to change. The FLEDA and the FLEDA-DR are identical except the FLEDA-DR has the additional row of LEDs. It is all a matter of choice.

Having said all that, I am anticipating that some current FLEDA customers might want to switch to a FLEDA-DR system. I have NOT yet determined how I might offer an exchange program but its in the works. If I get enough interest in a FLEDA to FLEDA-DR exchange program I will certainly come up with a proposal sooner then later. ;-)

As far as front turn signal replacements, specific to the Paul Smart, I am working on a design that might work out. It is literally in the "Balsa Wood" stage at this point. Once I get the final design completed I will be make a few sets and see how folks respond.

I am planning on casing them in aluminum and machining them to accommodate the lights (a strip of 25 LEDs) plus machining the attachment hole required. This design will attach to the front most front cowling attachment point and follow the curve of the cowling downward. I am also anticipating including the appropriate circuits to have them flash at the stock turn signal rate AND provide the option of having them operate as running/marker lights just like with the FLEDA and FLEDA-DR.

I also have worked out the specifics for converting the stock turn signals to a LED setup using 1.85" 48 LED clusters. My initial pricing on these is about $125 USD + S/H per set of two. Also this would require the customer to send me their original stock turn signals after they received their new LED setup. This setup would come with all the electronics and hardware to make them flash at the stock turn signal rate and to operate them as running/marker lights just like the FLEDA and FLEDA-DR. These turn signals would work for the Paul Smart, Sport series and I am guessing the GT. You can goto: LED running light update
for more details.

Thanks again for your question and giving me the opportunity to get on "paper" some comments and additional ideas.
