Oil Temp Gone Crazy!!!

So I was riding along this afternoon, doing some exploring. It was in the mid 70's but there was some traffic. Oil temp climbed to 224F last time I looked down. So another 15 minutes and I get to the curvy stuff. I toggle through and check my temp...171F....184F....201F....195F.....etc. It just kept jumping around. So I pulled over to look for any signs of danger. None we seen. I get to the gas station maybe 30 minutes later, fill up and when I go to check the temp, all is fine, no jumping.

Alright so when I was in the curvy stuff I was just cruising, not pushing the bike at all. I knew the temp was less than in traffic because we were moving, and so I had little concern for the temp jumps.

So my question is..... Have you guys had any experience with this "jumping oil temperature" reading? Thanks.

if the 1100 is the same as the 796 the temp sensor is in the rear head not the oil it self.could be a loose connection or short or something more serious.do you have a temp gun to verify temps?

I believe the sensor wire is attached to the right side of the oil cooler on the top. I just had mine off yesterday for some valve maitenance to get the cooler out of the way. It is a female solderless wire connector similar to what you would use on speaker wire in your car. The connector slides over a copper button on the top right of the cooler. The setup isn't ideal. I would look there first.
