New hyper or older hyper?
First post on this forum... Hello all!
I've had alot of monsters 750,s2r 800-1000, s4r and a couple supermoto's. drz 400sm and a husky 510 smr.
I love the monsters for riding twisties and long distance and the supermotos are light and flickable but suck on the freeway. might be getting a non-evo hypermotard and was wondering what your thoughts are. thanks.

tell us a little bit more.
your title suggests your trying to decide between different vintage hypers, but the post itself seems to ask whether you should get a hyper or not.
hypers are broadly similar between years, if not identical... the evo has slightly more power and slightly lighter (by a few lb) but all of that can be made up for with some good engine mods. there are some great used prices on lightly used but well modded hypers.. I'd go that route unless you HAVE to have the latest and greatest.
if it's between a hyper and another bike... go ride one and decide based on the type of roads you have in your area. hyper is great for tight to medium turns... quite compromised for anything else IMO.

a hyper cant and will never be a true motard. theres give and take in everything. i just came off three back to back motards and now with a hyper796.
both styles are totally different. any real motard motor needs rebuilds around 6k miles or less,hate freeways due to dirt bike gearing and have pure raw power and will wheelie thru every gear but cant go much over 110mph.
the truth is you need to have cash so you can have multiple bikes in your stable.
a hyper is closer to a naked sport bike with more suspension travel.more plush in turns and can go alot further on trips and is very freeway friendly but is not a craving knife like a 250lb 60hp motard.
dont get me wrong the hyper is still a very fun bike and im loving it more and more and you can use if for more things which makes it more useful the a motard

Ok, so I'm thinking of getting an 08 hyper 1100, just wanted to see how you guys like the hyper as I've never ridden one but have had drz's and a husky 510smr. Is there that big of a weight difference between the evo hyper and let's say the 08 hyper. thanks.

I was going to advise to get a newer hyper to get the rebuildable KYB forks. But, since you could save the dough getting a used one, I'd suggest spending the saved money on an 08 on a cartridge kit and shock rebuild.
The biggest initial necessary expenditures are exhaust and suspension. The rest can be upgraded much less expensive as you deam necessary.

Well, if you're looking for positive feedback on this question, you've come to the right place.
I live in Southern Arizona where the roads are far too straight. Lots of folks buy cruisers here because of that. I'm a sportbike guy, but riding these straight roads bore me so I tend to twist the throttle to the stops which would put my R1s of the past up into the 160+ mph range. Well within reach of jailtime.
With the Hyper, I can cruise with my buddys on the Victorys and still embarrase my buddys on the sportbikes through the twisties. I don't know where you are but I rode it in California and this bike is made for that place. I love this bike.
As far as weight differences, and while we're at it, I can somewhat compare Supermotos in this part too. The biggest issue (IMO) with the Hyper and it's "lack of comparability" with Supermotos lies in the internal rotating mass. Supermotos are typically singles so you have 50% of the weight right there. However, one of the things that can be done without costing very much money at all is to change out the Flywheel. The stock Flywheel on an '08-'09 is over 4 pounds. You can have your stock one turned down ($75) to 1 lb, 10 ozs. or just buy and aluminum one ($200) that weighs in at 10 ozs. This makes A TON OF DIFFERENCE IN FLICKABILITY. Incidently, the EVO and the EVO SP have the 848 Flywheel (I believe) which weighs in at roughly 2 lbs. This is one of the things that makes the EVO quicker and feel lighter, and you can have that for a measily $75.
I did mine and now I can ride it SuMo style (foot out) around town through intersections whereas before, it just felt unnatural because it didn't flick very easy.

i've riden many of bikes before the hyper. the very first thing i'd noticed was the ergo/cockpit view, you feel like you are literally sitting on the tank. you don't see the bar or front faring. really cool view. very comfortable too! power evo versus 08 is not going to be a factor unless you are planning to race/track it. it has more than enough power if you ask me.

My 2 cents. If I had the money to buy one in full I'd go with the EVO SP to do my share and keep Ducati in business  . At 5'8" I was afraid it would be to high for me but I got just a bit more than the tips of my toes on the ground when I recently sat on one. However best bang for the buck would be to just get a used 08 or 09 for like 6 grand less and mod it out with your massive savings.

I had the same dilemma. New vs used. Went used 2008! Great deal and it came with a couple of goodies already on it. I have no complaints! I also had no experience on how it rode but am very happy with my decision. 
I will need to get the forks worked on soon though.
