HM1100S Adventure...
Q:...what is the perfect bike for EVERYTHING???
well, i guess there are a lot of opinions out there, but i think the only real answer comes from the individual.
A:...what works for you?
i owned mostly sport bikes in the last 22 years of riding... then i began working for a company in Alaska the leads motorcycle tours (Motoquesttours.com), i learned a new appreciation for bikes that can go anywhere. we use GS's, Adventures, V-Stroms, the Ulysses, KLR's, etc... whether too heavy or too under powered, i rode those bikes because i was paid for it... but i wouldnt buy any of them. i wanted more power, better handling, less weight, better looks, yet i wanted the ability to go ANYWHERE. i sold my beloved 996 this past spring and bought a Hypermotard 1100S in Los Angeles this July...
WHAT A PERFECT BIKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
nearly 14,000 miles later i am sad to store it for the long Alaskan winter. :-(

Your pics are great. What are those tires on your hyper when it's sitting on the rocks/stones?

Me three!
I was thinking of trading my Hyper on something a little more dirt orientated but you have inspired me to keep it and try a change in tyres.

CDONA has it right! they're the D616! they are cheap and i just got 6,000 miles out of the rear and i'm not light on the throttle! awsome in the rain! great in the dirt! a little nervous on loose gravel and sand, and surprising REALLY good on the pavement! i've never had the bike to a track (maybe someday) and there is no 'chicken strip' on those tires. it's my first set of 616's so i tested the edge slowly and was really surprised at the feel and grip to full lean. highly recommended!
...though i have never tried the 'syncs' as CDONA mentions.

Hey bennyhab
Is that a DP windscreen you have on your hyper? Do you like it?
You seem to have accumulated a variety of miles. How is your CCW tank holding up?

yes it is a DP screen, it's not enough to make it feel like a touring bike. i'd like to try one that is a little taller.
the CCW tank is awsome! Motocorsa in Portland installed that for me!
i average 250-270 miles before the reserve light blinks on. i'd like to see an aftermarket air box compatible with that tank though. i put some pre-filters on that help in mud and rain. good luck!

It's funny different ends of the US, but we're using similiar luggage for long rides. I have the DP luggage rack on my bike, the loop on the kayak bags slip right over the end of it for a nice secure fit. Waterproof.
