Why would anybody want a 796?
I guess they might be ok for a beginner rider, I just dont know why anybody would want a smaller engine

Displacement and power is not necessarily why many buy the Hyper, the 796 could be just as fun regardless of riding skill and experience.

Are you serious? I know guys on 450 & 550 Supermotos that will smoke a above average rider on a 1100s Hyper or any liter jap bike. You may pass them on a straight but they'll embarrass you in the turns.

I just bought the Evo SP, I had a demo on the 796 and was a good bike, but I wish it had a bit more grunt and adjustable suspension...

Sometimes I think the 1100 is overkill.

Why? B/C they didn't test ride the 1100.
I was really thinking I wanted the 796 - lighter, almost the same hp, cheaper, slipper clutch, same great looks.
But the test ride - meh, it just didn't feel special at all; sluggish, wet noodle front suspension - and I was coming from a 50hp sm610.
Got on the 1,100 - now that bike brought the huge smile! And that's why it's sitting in my garage.
Sorry 796ers, not a big fan.

Well as a new rider ( when I bought my 1100 ) I would have seriously considered the 796 if it was available then, because of price, less power, easier beginner bike, I always had an impression that 1100 bikes are crazy, now I learned it is your right hand that decides what is crazy....

I see the 796 appealing to people who live where gas is very expensive, and to the lighter riders and even the touring-minded. It gets outstanding mileage while still retaining the key parts of what make this bike so much fun.
