HM wiring harness defect
Well, it isn't exactly a defect in the wiring harness, but i was riding the HM popped a minor wheelie and when I came down the bike suddenly went dead. I pulled over on the side of the road to check the fuses and sure enough the 30 amp fuse underneath the seat was fried. I tried the spare and it blew too, but the good news is that I saw the short...the seat bracket had sliced into the wiring harness, until it was shorting out. Got a extra 30 amp fuse and made it home..luckily, by wrapping the cut with plastic bags that I found on the side of the road. It is now safely wrapped with tape, but it seems like a stupid design defect from Ducati to put the wiring harness/seat bracket in a position that would cause such damage. Beware....

If that's the manner in which the wiring is put on the bike at the factory, it's definitely worth a call to the dealer. Does it look like it should have been zip tied secure or the manner in which it was threaded through the bracket?

The wiring harness is underneath the seat bracket, when pressure is put on the bracket by seating on the seat, the sharp edges of the seat bracket slice into the wiring harness...

You wouldn't happen to have a picture or two would ya?
I'm looking under my seat and I don't see much like you're describing.

I think I know what you are talking about. The bracket directly under the seat that has two rubber stubs on it and surrounds the gas tank (at least on the CCW HM 69 gas tank.) The wiring harness goes from one end of the bike the other lengthwise and runs along the gas tank, under the seat and under the bracket in question. This bracket has some sharp edges that can pinch the wiring harness and over time might cut into the wiring harness causing a short.
Easy fix is to put some rubber padding in b/w the bracket and wiring harness. The CCW tank came with some extra rubber paddding for this purpose. I also wrapped the wiring harness with some electrical tape (just the section that goes underneath the bracket) for good measure.

Yeah, over the last few years a handful of people have reported this issue. For the most part, everything turns out OK. However, I think a couple of people had the issue in heavy traffic and that would make things very unsafe. It's worth a check to make sure you ain't rubbing.
Out!

Had my seat off today and looked at my seat retaining bracket.
It has a rubber gasket to protect the wires for this very reason, are you sure somebody didnt put it back after f@#king with it

Had generally the same thing happen but it was my issue with not protecting the bracket edge more after installing the big tank. Couple of pieces of fuel line sliced so they slide over the edges and no more issues.
