Modifying a 2010 Hyper 796
I have been thinking about changing out the stock rear shock with the Ohlins. Is the money worth it and how will it change the ride and handling of the bike, if any. I know that the stock shock has some adjustments but does that still fall short of the Ohlins. Any and all opinions are welcome here.

yes it can help, but remember the bike handles well it self.i have played with tuning my 796 and setting rear sag helps alot too.
imo if you dont ride super hard i dont see the need to spend the 500 bucks you see them going for on ebay.what i have noticed is changing out the stock tires for better ones helps alot more for grip.
i guess it depends on what you want the bike to do for you!
and if you want to ride some time im in calabasas and live in the Malibu canyons ,send me a pm

You would probably have money better spent if you just sent your stock shoch to a reputable rebuilder.
The trick to the 1100 vs. the 1100S is to send the Sachs shock to have it rebuilt than it is better than the cookie-cutter Ohlins that comes on the "S".
Just a thought,
Dave

Remember, I have the 796 not the 1100. Does that make a difference?

the 796 doesnt have any high speed or low speed comp
only rebound,so rebuilding it would be a waste of money.
i ride kinda fast in the canyons and so far the stock stuff is ok and works ,but it can be better. keep in mind im coming off a rocket ship Aprilia SXV 550 that was tuned to perfection! the aprilia is the best bike i have rode but also the biggest piece of shit too!

Ya know, I gotta agree on this one. I figure you might as well just save up your cash to buy an 1100S that'll automatically give you an adjustability advantage even in stock setup. Incremental cost is really high to tweak the 796, but if you're just into modifying and don't keep track of how much you spend you might as well go for it. For my 796 I'm just putting on cutesy shit like carbon fiber stuff that I can easily piece out when I move up to a Multi later.

I'm not really looking to modify the life out of it. I am just inquiring about it if I can find some good deals on stuff. I am not the fastest rider out there so it probably won't make that much difference in my riding. I am just trying to gather info and then make a decision.
I have to agree on the Aprilia. I had a 2004 RSVR 1000 and sold it a year later. Piece!
