Rear Height Rod adjustment help!!!
Hey guys,
First off I spent the last 1/2 hour going through the search for help.
When I first got my 1100s 2009 I was going through the break in procedure recommended by the dealer mech. When I did the first 4th gear run up (around 85-100mph the bike developed an oscillation with the whole bike wobbling...scared the crap out of me... slowed down to come out of the wobble. And this wobble was the whole bike not just the front wheel. Well the next day took the bike into the dealer and got the preload, sag, compression and rebound set and the bike felt alot more stable.
Fast forward 7000 miles and when I enter sweeper 80+ mph the bike starts that oscillation again..... feels like if I stay in it it will go into a tank slapper....
Anyone know how to work that out of the bike??? Is it just a Hyper thing? Tire wear?? Rod height adj? Sag changing with springs broke in????
Anyone???

Can you tell if it's from the front or rear? Would adding a click of compression to slow the suspension down help? Or possibly one less click of rebound?

It's probably from the front.
No, it's not a Hyper thing.
What does your front tire look like?? If it is cupped in any way, change it then spend a few hundred more going to a track school and learn how NOT to ride the front tire through the turns. No, I'm not trying to be a jerk, I'm trying to save your azz from a crash. Riding the front WILL cause that type of tire wear and ultimately that type of ocilation.
If your front tire is not worn, maybe an axle alignment issue or bent wheel??

Thanks for the input guys.....
The front tire has 7200 miles on it and is completely smooth, no cupping.... probably the most even wear I have ever seen .... there is very little tread left... but like I said very even.
I have also checked the air pressure to make sure that was right.... 34f, 43r ...... I did put a Michelin Pilot Power 190 rear...maybe that has upset the bike. I will put new tires front and rear *120/180* at the 7500 miles service and see how she handles... and then go from there.
I also wondered as I turn in (over 80) if feels like the wind plays on the bars too.... I just want that confidence back on the high speed turns.... the lower speeds are phenomenal on this bike!

Have you cranked up on the ride height rod before now?? If so, how much??
The 190 rear will put more "strain" on the front but nothing that should cause that, normally. However, it was originally set up for a 180, with the 190, you gained width and even if the 190 is a 50 (as opposed to 55), you still gained height (with the stock rim), putting more weight on the front. Compound that with a tire that is down on treadlife (not to mention countless heat cycles and age) plus a road imperfection or two (?) and maybe you have your cause.

Everyone likes things different, but that air pressure is way too high in my opinion. I think the sticker on the frame (I assume the manual too) calls for 32F and 36R. I run mine aroud 30/31F and 33/34R.
I also think that tire was shot some time ago. That is very likely the problem. I can highly recommend the Dunlop Sportmax Q2s. You can get a good deal on them at Cycle Gear. If you want, I have a couple of 15% off coupons. You can swing by my house and get one from me.
It never hurts to check your suspension sag again, but I personally never felt any settling or breaking in after I got mine dialed. The bike was instantly much more settled and I never felt the need for a dampner.
Out!

I agree with Axe on the pressures. I run mine at 31f/34r.
...and I also agree with him on the tire life. Get that puppy off of there THEN you can start looking for a problem.

Right on! Thanks guys!
I've got a brand new Pirelli front in the garage.... so gonna get a matching rear for this set. Maybe next time try Dunlaps.
Would love the coupons Axe! Talk to you soon about them!

Took my first long ride (~100 miles) on the Hyper yesterday and the mismatched set of tires Pirelli Corsa III on the front and Dunlop Roadsmart on the back definitely reared their ugly unmatched heads. The PO was definitely a hack based on all the "stuff" I've found including twisted together and taped over connections under the seat for the undertail mod . So I'm not too shocked to find he was running a goofy tire set up. Of course with 3/4" chicken strips he probably never noticed it handled like crap . Anywho, based on my little sample of what mismatched tires can do to the handling I would buy into the idea of sticking on a set of matched tires are the right pressure and see how the old girl does .

Same exact thing happened to me! I did the same and got my suspension dialed in, helped a lot but just the other day it returned on a long high speed sweeper at about 90 mph. I was on the gas moderate to hard. I did notice that it started on an imperfection in the pavement though. I'm running stock tires on an evo sp with 1600 miles on the odo.
Maybe you and I have the same riding style, I tend to think it's operator induced via abrupt handlebar inputs. Either way its scary as shit.
