Shifting 1st to 2nd Gear Very Harsh

Hi, My 796 has 5000miles on it now and when I shift from 1st to 2nd man its Harsh, It makes a real loud clunk and it drives me nuts, it does it about 75% of the shifts and the rest are smooth with no noise.
I have had other bikes that were hard shifting and loud when going that gap from 1st to 2nd but noware near as bad as this bike. Is this just the way hyper gear boxes are or do I gots a shift fork or some other kind of problem because I am not hard on the gear box just basic street riding. Thanks!!!

Coupe of things to check, first is your clutch lever adjusted correctly, atre you getting enough pull to release the clutch freely?

Then fluid check, is there enough or does the system have air in it, maybe a quick bleed will help to establish this.

Lastly get into the slave cylinder and check it is actuating correctly, check your clutch rod is not bent or broken and finally check you clutch plate sand hub.

Come back with more queries if you need to as you go through this.

Isn't this a warranty issue?

I did a clutch bleed about 500 miles ago and it did not help I also have tryed different lever positions, I am going to look into the slave cylinder but I think its internal, 2nd to 3rd gear is a little harsh also but the rest of gears shift butter smooth. Some 1st to 2nd shifts the lever is hard to pull and its a loud clunk and some are smooth with no noise.

It's normal... Keep the revs up even further if the clunking bothers you, that will smoothen it out a bit.

Same here, 1st to 2nd gear and back is quiet hard and makes that "clunk" noise just as you posted it. Already tried to change the clutch lever position but its not getting better.

Given you have already done that I would be talking to the stealership I think.

They should be pretty smooth and given it is under warranty let them sort it out, there was a selector problem on the 1100's so this may be related.

My 796 has +3800 on it and is the same at lower rpm .... when on it hard 1 to 2nd (and all gears) is smooth as can be .... also mine is clunky in to fist sitting still and downshifting when coming up to a stop.

Zero issues with clutch and a variable pull.

I am running Mobil 1 4T 10-40 changed @ 700mi ..... mine has been the same since mile one. Time to change it I know !!!
