SC Project Carbon 2-1, Stacks, ECU Reflash, New Tires installed! (lots of pics)
Hyper just received some nice upgrades in the last few days. I really liked the look of the SC Project 2-1 exhaust but wasn't huge on the satin black finish. I contacted motovation about SC Project making me a setup with a carbon finish. They contact SC Project in Italy and let me know they would make this setup for me and it would be shipped to me 2-3 weeks later. True to their word, in under 3 weeks the exhaust arrived from overseas. I also added some other rizoma items before the exhaust shipped out and motovation adjusted the order no questions asked and got everything correct. Big thanks to motovation USA! I also purchased a spare ECU and sent it to Houston Superbikes to get flashed. I had heard little about flashes on hypers but have seen some threads on the monster forum so decided to give it a go. Sent the ECU in to get flashed the DP Cams map. Thinking since the stacks open the airbox so much more than the DP airbox lid the +18% fuel would be a better fit than standard 2-1 map. Houston Superbikes was very helpful and I felt confident in them flashing my ECU. Shipped it to them on a Tuesday, received it on the following Wednesday. With 2-1 transit time both ways, this was only a 2 day turnaround for the flash. Now onto installation... follow by impressions
Started by taking the shrouds and seat off to get the tank out of the way.
Lifting and moving the tank to the right exposes the stock airbox. Such a puny intake for the 1100cc motor to breathe! I didn't unscrew anything from the bottom of tank and still had more than enough room.
The only problem I ran into here was all the bolts on the bottom of the airbox were stripped from the factory. I used vice grips and torx's drives to get one off before realizing rubber grommets were holdin the airbox in. Some muscle and I pulled the rest of it out.
Somewhere inbetween taking panels off I swapped out my stock ECU for the flashed unit from Houston Superbikes. It reads HPM100 Full Race. I disconnected battery before installing ECU, and tested the ecu with stacks before putting tank back on.
I opted to use permanent clamps for the small breathers. Filters oiled up nicely and fitted snug.
Stacks installed. I wrapped the frame in rubber dampening and red electrical tape and then zip tied the coils to the frame nice and tight. These feel real sturdy and I don't think the amount of time it would take to make brackets would be worth it. No cutting corners here in my eyes.
Close up of stacks.
All panels removed.

With stacks installed I put the tank back in place and started on the exhaust. Didn't realize just how heavy the stock cans and cat were until holding them individually. Wow. Found the best way to get the new pipes to fit correctly was test fit all pipes off the bike to see how tight they go together. Than install the two header pipes first. I kept the rear pipe and the connector pipe where the cat was connected when I bolted to rear cylinder studs. Keep everything loose until everything is bolted up nicely. Wasn't too bad to install and I have definitely done harder exhaust installs.
Had to cut down plate to bold to old flapped valve location without rubbing carbon panels. Cut down and rounded off more after this photo was taken.
Fitting the main can.
All bolted up. On the mounting bracket I used 4 washers sandwiched together for a nice tight straight fit. Bolt goes through washer, through bracket through exhaust hanger, through washer, through exhaust hanger, through washer, through nut.
The holes in the carbon panels were too small to fit the tapered nuts that held the stock panels in. Drilled the holes a bit larger. The space inbetween the holes were a bit to narrow and I had to extend bottom holes to fit onto subframe. This and the airbox bolts being stripped were the only two snags.
And installed!
View of stacks with everything back on the bike.
My what a clean rear!

And now impressions... Totally transforms the bike. Before this the bike was very restricted and ran pretty lean. The bike would stall on me 3 or 4 times a ride coming to a stoplight or intersection. With the race ecu, airbox and pipe everything seems soo much smoother.. and louder! I haven't stalled once yet and it seems to take off better from a stop, decelerate better, just smoother overall powerband. And this is before setting fuel trim or TPS reset. The sound is amazing with a real motorsport sound not as much of a brap sound of a dirtbike. Of course I took the baffle out before I even installed. I want to keep the carbon cool and have the bike be able to breathe. The power feels improved most in mid-range. I feel like I may have lost alittle low end but this could be the TPS/Fuel trim not being done yet or butt dyno of midrange being so strong it makes the bottom feel weak. It idles great now.
The reflash seems great so far. I totally forgot when installing a spare ecu that the miles on the purchased ecu would be different than the ones on my original ECU. When I started the bike up I realized everything was in Km not MPH. I thought ahhh I gotta send to get flashed again but then did a quick search and switched everything over to MPH using the mode dial on the stalk. Turns out the ECU I installed was within 40 miles of my original ECU!? That was a relief.
And the tires... Went from the stock Corsa III's to Michelin power pures and wow what a difference. The bike feels more natural, with less of a tendency to turn in. I feel like I have gained more confidence with the tires as well! Highly recommend.
And of course a video!

Nice write up! Love the pics.
What did you ask them to change on your ECU and how did you know?
Are you sure about the miles in the ECU? As far as I know the miles are kept in your dashboard, not in your ECU. I had to switch dashboards once because it would not clear the service indicator. Went from 2915 km's to 0. But then when I changed to a race cams ECU (from 2 in 1 ECU) the miles (km's) stayed exactly the same.

You are probably right! I rode for a while in Km's before I realized I could switch this myself. The miles I remembered were for memory so I bet the change to Km's threw me off and the miles were correct the whole time. Just passed 3,600!

Can you post a soundclip? Curious to know how it sounds.
Looks like the exhaust pipe has a larger diameter than the Termi's?
Oh and I don't want to scare you, but I found this a while ago:
Doesn't say anything on how it happend though (baffles in?) but I would check the exhaust once in a while...

See the bottom of the post for a video. Ill have some helmet cam footage soon so you can hear during riding... sounds much better during downshifts/quick acceleration than idling.
That video is scary! I have seen similar thing happen to a few carbon exhausts (mivv, termi) That is why im running with the baffle out to avoid something like this as much as possible. It is kind of funny. SC Project couldn't offer a warranty on the carbon exhaust but could on titanium & aluminum.. due to the nature of carbon fiber. I was thinking more because of discoloration and am hoping I won't have a huge failure like this one. They say they have been running on their hyper for many miles with no issues. The one in the video looks exactly like mine. Kindof strange how they offer carbon on a lot of their exhausts but not for the hyper. I wonder if it is because of the video you just showed me! Had I seen the video I would have been alittle weary. The smartest thing would have be get titanium finish but I just couldn't pass up the look of the carbon!
I have only seen one other hyper on here with sc carbon I think it was a slip on.
As far as diameter...The pipe starts out small and tapers to a larger diameter pipe throughout the system. Very nice piping and clean welds.

I overlooked the video link...
Sounds good! Sounds kinda like my Termi 2 in 1 but just a little more deeper note on idle.
I always thougth Termignoni's were really good and well made. Mine is fine so far, but with the topics I've read on this forum and talking to other Hyper owners with Termi's I'm not sure if I would buy em a second time....
