PCV & Auto tune-09 Hyper

My PCV and auto tune just showed up. It is going on my 09 HyperS with the
2-1 Termi, DP ECU and Ducshop stacks. The awesome guys at Santa Barbara Ducati are doing the install in the upcoming weeks. I am having them sync the TB's as well. After the install it will be dyno tuned for fine tuning the base map for the auto tune to adjust from (and to see what kind of numbers it produces). I am wondering where the O2 bung will be welded in at. My best guess will somewhere after each header comes together. Just hope it doesen't look to boogery.

I went with the auto tune feature because I am in the military and I move every 2-3 years. I am hoping that the auto tune option will be able to adjust for different fuel quality/grades and altitude/climates that I may be sent to in order for it to run properly without having to dyno tune it everywhere I go?

I will update this thread with the results good or bad with install and tuning for anyone who is interested.

Oh yea, I vote for a Rossi edition Hyper and not a lame 848 like someone else has But I still have a good kidney if they do a Rossi D16!

As promised.

I just picked up my Hyper today after the install. Sam did an oustanding job with the install and placement of the Auto Tune O2 sensor. He placed it right behind the rearset. It looks factory and you can barely see it from the side view. Also in that location the wires were able to be tucked away behind the frame. Although that location is somewhat hidden, it is in the best location for the flow of the exhaust gasses since there are no bends creating more turbulence. After the install it was off to the dyno. As you can see from the attached dyno sheet the power curve is pretty smooth. This was with the canned PCV map from their website for the DP ECU, open airbox and termi system. Since it was pretty spot on, we didn't bother running up the bill for another 2-3 hp. After the ride home I am pretty impressed. It really did smooth things out. No more popping on decel or flat spots on the way to the redline. I have been using the VDST software to try and dial in the DP ECU before, but the PCV corrected everything I was not happy with.

Was there night and day difference in power?? Well it surely didn't turn the Hyper into a D16 but it is a great addition to the mods I already have. Honestly, this mod gave me about the same performance bump as the termi 2-1 kit.

Performance wise what I noticed the most was the initial throttle response. It "feels" like it has about 10 more hp as soon as the clutch lever is released. From there I can feel a noticable gain all the way to the redline. Before it felt like it would taper off or have some flat spots in the curve.

For a total of around $500 you really can't go wrong with this mod. The only drawback to the diy guy is the o2 sensor that needs to be installed. I have my own welding machine but is one of those Sears mig welders. I was afraid that I would burn through the thin walled termi header so I left it to the pros and I'm glad I did. I'm sure if I ruined the header that replacing it would be more that paying someone else to do it.

If you cannot see the graph that well it made 89.4 hp at 7600 rpm and 72 ftlb at 4800 rpm. I was curious about the numbers hoping to see really high numbers to be able to brag about but every dyno is different with different variables. I was more concerned with seeing if there were any lean or flat spots that needed to be ironed out.

I assume the graph is after the install? Where is the before run so we can see the gain? Also do you have a graph of the A/F before/after? I'm curious to see how accurate the autotune is.

Thanks for sharing!

Yes, the graph is after the install. I had planned to do a before and after dyno so this right up could have been more complete and informative and I am truely sorry, but the owners of the dyno were at Indy for the Motogp last week before the install (Erion Racing crew) and could not get to it. I wish I could have dynoed it after each mod to see the progress but no such luck. Also I am kinda bummed that the graph does not show the A/F ratio as well. I hear that these bikes run lean from the factory and wanted to see how much the PCV corrected it and compared to others.

No worries on not having a before run to show. This is are good results and I for one, appreciate you sharing your success with the PCV.

Cheers!

I installed the pcv and auto tune about 6 weeks ago and the result was very good.
I then added some ducshop stacks and it really makes a difference to the performance with the auto tune with smooth acceleration and no poping at all.
The bike hits the rev limiter alot more than it used too.
Still dont know what the final outcome on fuel useage is yet as I havnt done any trips yet.
