New Hyper owner

Whats up everyone, I'm the proud new owner of a 2010 1100 EVO SP. Just introducing myself and would like to say that I have learned much on this site in the short period of time that I've been lurking.

In the 800 miles I have logged so far, being semi-aggresive and trying hard to keep it under 7k (rpm), I've realized my Hyper needs a steering damper. (Which will be my first accessory purchase). I've had one too many "wobble" attacks, which I think were caused by my uneven pull on the handlebars under hard acceleration. Anyone else notice this?

Any other SE New England riders on here?

Interesting....
I thougt they addressed that issue with the EVO SP.
There was some talk about what you discribe when they first made the hyper IIRC.

You're lucky. I also am a new owner but waiting for my bike to arrive. So haven't even seen it yet, just paid for it!
Everyone seems to put a damper on their hyper's from what I see on this site. Must be a common problem?

It happened to me this afternoon, I was hard on the throttle at about 90-95 mph straight away and she started to wobble. Weird thing about it is I let off and slowed to about 80-85 and was still wobbling. I made the concious effort to let off all pressure of the grips while maintaining steady throttle and it stopped. My buddy that I was riding with was behind me and later told me he thought I was done for.

I'm pretty sure it was caused by me pulling one side of the handlebar more then the other due to wind and torque.

congrats! as for the damper, it is a nice addition and doesn't hurt having one in my opinion, especially if you plan on tracking it. i just received mine from Dan Kyle racing (Ohlins damper, Kyle mounting bracket) and a few parts need to be added to the kit to work with the new raised handlebars (he used my kit as a test unit). the other issue you are going to contend with is lean fuel mixture that seems to only be remedied by an aftermarket ECU (Fat Duc's are not yet available for the EVO's). other than that it's a super fun motorcycle. oh ya, and don't forget to sign up for the California Cyclework's Intermediate size fuel tank!!!

have fun and ride safe

Thanks,
I already removed the EVAP box and hoses and will wait for the fat duc (I think they're working on one now for the EVO's). I want to put at least 2k miles on her before I replace the exhaust/ ECU.
Definately first order of buisness is the damper!

I would set my suspension up correctly before I blew any money on a dampner. Once you get the sag set, that wobble will be gone. Then you can focus on the compressing and rebound settings. If you still think you need a dampner, then go back and set your suspension up correctly. If you still think you need a dampner, then go back and set your suspension up correctly. If you still think you need a dampner, then go back and set your suspension up correctly. If you still think you need a dampner, then go back and set your suspension up correctly. Oh, then if it is still a problem you can get a dampner.

Out!

Thanks for the info, I will definately get the suspension dialed in before I drop any cash on a damper.
