Airbox mod on 796???
I am about to chop into this box, but I had a thought. Since the 796 and 1100 share the same air box; I know the 1100 benefits from both holes but would both holes be too much for the smaller cc engine and cause a lean condition? Just wanted everyone's thoughts before I start perforating this thing.

All bikes vary slightly of course, but I'm 100% sure my 796 would run lean even with just one hole and no fuel compensation.

I agree.
Allready to lean.
Open air box without more fuel would be very bad.

Duc fuel Inj does not know how much air is coming in. (no mass air sensor)Engineers calculate based on stock box flow, throttle opening and RPM air temp, engine temp . If you open the air box more air will flow but not more fuel. Much worse lean condition than just lowering back pressure with slip-on.
DP takes this all into consideration in new ECU program when matching new airbox cover to exhaust manifold/slip-on/cams combo.

The guys with new 1100s w Seimens ECU are not "getting away" with anything.
Earlier non Seimens models have lots of ways to adjust fuel. Fat duc , DP ECU that eliminates O2 sensor, Micro Tech ECU's etc

so is there no way to alter the fuel mixture so it's richer instead of lean? i, for one, don't care much about fuel efficiency—i rather have more fun.

Power Commander V. Made my 796 go like hell and it's gotten rid of 95% of that dangerous surging below 4K RPM.

A reflash is the way to go for slipon and minor airbox mods
PCV or bazzaz is way to go if you get stacks and pods as no one offers a map for this to date and even if they did the PC and bazzaz give you more flexability for adjusting to any further changes you make.
The Bazzaz is working well for me.
If you have a shop near you that tunes, find out which unit they work with
