Ducati IED Hypermotard

I know Alexio started a thread on the trellis swing arm for the hypermotard, but as as AXE pointed out, I also thing the design is super cool.

I think IED designs deserve their own therad.

I'd love for someone to build that body work as spare part for track days

The original posting came from MotoBlog Italy here:

and isn't that nice too ?
It feels like a more modern version of the MH to me

I agree that first pic is awesome and the swing arm looks great.

I saw some kind of 125 or 250 with that kind of swing arm and was think "that would look so nice on my hyper and then some spokes wheels!
Does anyone ride with spokes wheels on there hyper?

Talon makes some very nice tubeless spoked wheels. For a Ducati I don't know. Any wheel can be made tubeless.

My DRZ had spoke wheels with tubeless rims and tires but you still had to run tubes.
All those little spoke holes leak air
Several methods of sealing the holes out there but not reliable.

Actually it's very easy to seal spoked rims and make them permanent. My BMW has been tubeless for 10 years and my 950 Adventure has been tubeless for 6 years and 47,000 miles.

Here's the technique very quickly but look on ADV Rider for more detail.

1. Clean the rim with alcohol.
2. Put it in a stand that holds it vertical.
3. Buy "GOOP" sealant. I've tried everything and it's the best so far.
4. Squeeze GOOP into the back of the spoke and cover 4 spokes.

5. Let set 5-10 minutes.
6. Do next 4 and repeat.
7. Let dry overnight and repeat again.

8. Repeat so all spokes get three coats.
9. Mount the tire and look for leaks with soapy water.
10. Repair any leaks (from the inside!) and you're good to go.

Sorry for the Hijack but if you like spokes (and who doesn't?) then you should know it's easy to make them tubeless.

Resume adoration of the cool concept bikes...

Gregor

Yes Ive seen this method.
I didn't say it couldnt be done..
Just not a simple (easy thing )
and I stand by that

You think its EASY to silicone 4 spokes, wait 5-10 mins and repeat 9 more times (on a 40 spoke wheel 50-100 minutes) let sit overnite and repeat this whole process for 2 more days

Then if it still leaks take the tire off and try again ?

I think you have alot more patience and tenacity than the normal motorcycle enthusiast
Most guys would probably drink so much beer waiting for silicone to dry they would pass out before finishing

It's not hard just tedious but if you're doing other stuff it's no big deal. I once got 9 flats on the Trans Lab in one day and if I'd had tubes I'd still be there! It's an investment to me - tubes suck.

Here's a few for you:
