Hyper Touring: 800 mile day ride
Finally got to strech the legs on my hyper last weekend. 400 miles of interstate and 400 of twisty back roads (well, the best that SW Wisconsin has to offer - we can't all live in SoCal.)
Touring mods that helped me enjoy my long ride:
CCW big tank
Sargent Seat (low)
Fabbri Windscreen (what's left of it)
Garmin Zumo w/ XM
Rode north from Chicago to Reedsburg, WI. Then west on hwy 33 along with some lettered roads. North on hwy 108, then northwest along the Great River Road following the Mississippi River to Fountain City. From there took hwy 95 toward Arcadia with some more lettered roads to play with! And then turned around and did it all over again.
Interstate drone sucked but it pretty much sucks on any motorcycle. The windscreen did a good job of deflecting most of the wind off my chest. What I found most irksome is that at speeds over 70mph the wind pushes my legs apart and away from the seat - after an hour it gets annoying, then tiresome. The Sargent Seat really made the long ride enjoyable; buns didn't start to hurt till around 600 miles. Having tunes definately helps the miles tick away on the superslab.
Twisty backroads is where this bike shines and made the long trip worth it. This thing can carry loads of cornering speed - I finally got to use the sides of my tires! Got to do a few top speed runs as well. I have the stock exhaust but I still think the hyper sounds awesome pounding through the gears...brwwwwwaaaaap ... brrrwwwwwaaap! SW Wisc. has some great rolling hills and beautiful farm country - probably the best the midwest has to offer.
Hyper didn't miss a beat the whole day, and it sure killed lots of bugs. After my 14hr ride I was beat, but a few days of rest and I'm ready to do it all over again.

Wow that's quite a ride. I wonder if the Sargent seat is the reason your legs get wind blasted. Just saying because I don't get that with the stock seat. Except my ass starts to hurt after about 2 hours. I can cruise at 80 with no problem I also have the Fabbri screen.

the most ive ridden on my hyper is 300 miles in one day and I was destroyed. 2 things hurt: my butt on that performance seat, literally goes numb, then painful, then unbearable. Also, vibration coming through handlebars is pretty bad. This bike is the best for short rides on twisty roads... not good for long distances IMO.

Last summer I did two trips from Santa Barbara to san francisco (about 360 miles on the freeway - but I avoided that as much as possible). Mile after mile of active (twisty) riding is cake and ridiculous fun but I agree that the slab gets tiring no matter what.
800 miles in a dat though? Zoiks!

Awesome job man! That's a haul for sure but you got to feel out your bike...... On my cali trip i noticed i could set my chin on my hand on my handle bars to rest...while leaned over I could put the tops of my feet on the rear pegs to change it up a bit...... let your legs hang straight down or fly behind you for my change up positions..... 800 miles is a hell of a day! Yea and music is a must!
More pictures from your trip???

Had to go help my brother bring back a bike from SoCal.....I had a huge backpack and wish I could work out some saddlebags soon......

My legs got blasted with the stock seat as well - must be my stubby legs

Yeah, on the way home (200 miles of interstate) I was experimenting with all sorts of riding positions, even putting my legs on top of the frame sliders, moving my butt to the passenger seat. I'll try the passenger pegs / slanky dangling legs posture next time.
That looks like a decent ride you were on - nice pics! I could only take a couple pics with my phone so I have no more to share- the bike and I were stopped for no more than 20 minutes the whole day. I find that when riding by myself I just want to keep going going going!
I wish I didn't have to ride so long, but living in an area flat as a pancake I have to ride far to get to some roads worthy of my new hyper.

To resurrect an old thread, I put a Renazco seat on my 796. Today I rode 300 miles, about half of it twisty. The seat was perfect. No tendency for the legs to spread, no pain, no pressure. I felt as good when I came back as when I left.

Anything around 500 miles is a full day. 800 plus, with half twisty is really good. If you ride sweep you see the majority of people start kicking legs and squirming at 50 miles.
I did 1040 miles in 14.5 hours on the way back from the Indy MotoGP last year on my Hyper. I rode with I guy who was on a BMW 1200lt with a radar detector. It was all slab, with the 6.4 gallon tank my low fuel light came on at 170 miles. DP comfort seat, and DP rearsets. Saturday I hit 5 Ducati dealers for club business, 453 miles. I don't know what it is but I can ride my Hyper endlessly. I think helmet choice is also an important thing for riding a Hyper long distance.
