Evoluzione Slipper issue

Hey all...

08 Hyper here with the Evoluzione slipper clutch. Problem I'm encountering is it's slipping on acceleration - NOT the way it would if the clutch was worn, but the way it would if the rear was sliding and then catching. And I'm pretty damn sure this bike isn't spinning the rear at 60 MPH straight up and down in top gear.

From previous slippers, I think this might be a common problem, but looking for Evoluzione specifics. Is this a case of needing a stiffer cone spring or something similar? Perhaps an installation issue? Any input is appreciated. Finding info about this clutch on the net is kinda' tough it seems.

What is your plate stack height? If it is too small you would have issues similar to this.

Ah - so I *just* found this:

Note: when choosing the primary spring keep in mind that the greater the spring tension, the greater the pressure on the disc pack and the smaller the slipping in acceleration. When choosing the secondary spring remember that the greater the spring tension, the greater the engine brake in deceleration

Looks like I need a different primary spring perhaps...anyone know where I can get one?

Which spring do you currently have? The part number will be on it. I've never had trouble with the spring that is included in the kit when the clutch is setup properly - and that is using it on a bike with a lot more torque than the Hyper!

If they included a really light spring for some reason that could be the issue, but the standard spring included in the kits we get is sufficient for Ducatis. I'd have to look and see what the part number is as I don't remember off the top of my head.

I'd be surprised if the plate stack height was the issue since it's using the stock plates all around and the bike has less than 2k on it (and no sign of the clutch slipping from wear either). Good thought though...I'm still thinking it's a primary spring issue...and from what I've seen, that spring is like $185!!!!

Looking at my price list we can source 110Kg-230Kg springs (in increments of 10) - retail is $151.99 FYI.

Really, really good to know - thanks Anthony. I have to see what's in there now first (and yeah, I guess I can measure the stack height since I'll be in there anyway. Other than new plates, I don't know what the cure for that would be?

I have what most will think is a dumb question since it seems to be common knowledge but how you do you about changing the stack heigth? Do you just take a plate out?

I have this same slipper and installed it exactly like the manual says. Everything seems fine but the last nut you torque down doesn't look quite right. My bike is at the painters now so I will have to take a pic when it gets back.

Generally the stack height will be too short. As the clutch is used more and the friction material is worn off and the combined height of the plates becomes smaller. If it gets too small the clutch won't function properly.

To get it back into spec you can swap out steel plates or even add an extra as needed. For example you could swap a 1.5mm steel plate for a 2mm steel to get yourself .5mm of height.
