Group buy?- lightweight batteries
I was going to buy the batteries in bulk and make batteries myself since I have a friend who is an electronic engineer and he has the tools... BUT I found an entity that will make these for a very reasonable group buy price...
IN case you are not aware of these batteries here is some info about them…
The battery is a full 7 lbs. lighter than the stock Hypermotard lead/acid battery the Yuasa YT12b-bs. This is THE EXACT same battery that has been sold by SpeedCell and Carbon Speed for a couple years at over $200 bucks! …They are the authentic A123 Lifepro4 battery cells…the same make up of 8 cells wired in series and parallel. The ones I’m setting up for this group buy will have a 1 year warranty which is twice as long as the others are offering. The batteries are spot welded not soldered. It will be tested, balanced and precharged, and as stated has a one year warranty. It just won’t have printed label that the others have…
The price I’m at (If I can get over 12 units ordered) I order is going to be around.
$145 dollars …For the 8-cell for superbikes 600cc up to 1200cc
$80 dollars ...For the 4-cell supermoto/ enduro single cylinder bikes
This is a great saving compared to the name brand and a good savings over the independent guys who build these…These will be as good and maybe better than the name brands.
At this point in time the LIFE4pro battery has been used very effectively for the last 4 years as a replacement on many bikes and especially sport/race bikes where people want a large weight savings and a hassle free battery…. The battery does NOT need to be trickle charged, does not need balance charging and works exceptionally well as a replacement battery. It charges just as a regular battery on the stock electrical system…
The 4 cell battery pack is fine for enduros, SM bikes, and other single cylinder bikes.
The 8 cell is for 600cc through superbikes
Pros—
-This battery is a full 7 pounds lighter than the stock Hypermotard battery!
-The battery will turn over the Hypermotard just as well as the stock battery
-This battery actually improves as it is cranked more because the cells warm up
-Does not lose its charge over time it can maintain its charge over 6-8 month no battery tender needed. In fact it best not to use one
-Lifepro4 batteries can be charged over 1000 times with no ill effects
Cons-
- At 45 degrees it loses much of it initial power...BUT after 4-5 attempts at cranking the battery for a couple seconds will gain its strength back because the batteries have warmed inside the cell so full power comes back. But it is not the best battery for cold climates.
- This battery can be damaged by letting it discharge fully!!! I’ve done this twice to my own battery and a cell went bad! But it is said the whole pack can be ruined and that would void warranty.
So if your interested let me know... and if I can get 12 orders we are good to go.

Well I got my battery of ebay, with no problems, to my door for $88 although I had to put on my own cable connections. Its the 4s2p configuation with welded tabs and shrink wrapped...

Being blunt, if they can do it for that price and its a an 8 pack of real A123 batteries, not the knock offs that would be a fantastic deal and the group buy should be abandoned if it holds true. I called around for a week about pricing and me making them vs. having a manufacturer do it and could not come close to that price and include the time of building them.... I will contact them to see what they are offering.

I told the manufacturer I would purchase a sample to test first and see his quality of build before I committed. He is fine with that... ON the other hand I have to check out what this Swedish company is offering. I don't want any of us to pay more if we can get it elsewhere cheaper.

Can you post a pic of yours... I also notice you said it has the welded tabs... Can you see the tabs? The ones I'm planning on the group buy are water proof per the manufacture. An have the quick change adapters which are expensive. But none the less yours is worth looking at.

I really like the idea of saving weight that high up on the bike. But I don't use the bike for weeks at a time so a battery tender is needed. Can you use one or will that seriously reduce the life?

Antigrav heres a pic. I never pulled all the covering off to check for welded tabs etc, but I think the guy (Ray) was very genuine and so far this summer the battery has performed strong, much better than original in my opinion...it came charged and it has a balancer cable to check and charge the cells if need be. I can't say about waterproofing but the whole thing looks well sealed ( but I haven't been in any rain storms this summer). It did come with duel cables and I had to add the XT60 connector and a 6mm ring connector.
If you email Ray he will basically make anything you want...was the impression I got. And for $88 I'm very happy.
